I have always acted like a gentleman when I am with the opposite sex, mainly because I have been raised to always be respectful to woman, I will hold a door open for a woman never would I use any sort of bad language in a womans presence and I will stand when a woman enters a room.

I have noticed there are some woman that become offended when I act in this manner some have even stated that I am being a little stiff and that my manners are a bit outdated my question is should men still act in this fashion and how far is too far when showing good manners.

a real gentleman holds the door open for everybody, not just women

when women act offended or snippy when I hold the door for them I just try to close it real fast before they can get through

A gentleman does not have to act like he is something special just because he has expected manners. While I agree a polite thank you is nice, when you are shown a courtesy, I don't think it deserves a medal. OMG Stop whineing!

There is no such thing as overly good manners.Them are the character traits of a gentleman. Why would U even remotely consider diminishing your character?I was taught the same qualities by my Grandfather as I was growing up.So to deviate from this path would be to dishonor him.I have no desire to ever become a conformist of lower standards regardless of what others may think in our current society.(imo)Godspeed!Cy  drinker

Sounds like this is coming from women who'd sit spread-legged while wearing a mini-skirt...don't listen to them...

Those women that thinks its alright for a man to ignore them or not hold open a door have psychological issues and were probably not treated with respect - so it's programmed into their head that its ok to be treated with disrespect!

Keep being who you are - don't let them fool you. Every woman deep down inside wants a man with manners! :)

Being a gentlemen is something that is in you or not, I'm not like that to please anyone just the way I am, I have been yelled at for holding a door and cursed at but I just turn around and say "your welcome" with a smile.

Not many guys my age have manners. Most parents have forgotten the lost treasure of teaching their children manners. I agree with most everyone else, dont change. I would love to find a man with manners.

As far as I'm concerned. Gentlemen are just laughed at these days, I don't think ladies want that no more.

Then you guys that are meeting these women that don't care for a gentleman are meeting the wrong women! How many women on this thread have you seen say they like a man with manners? ALL of them.

They're just saying this cause they aren't the ones that are actually going out with the guys that start up these threads. It would be different if the date was with them, it's easier to talk when you're not the one going out with the 'gentleman' guy.
