The Mists of Avalon is one of my favorite books.

LOTR trilogy movies - watched twice so far.

Recently read the first in a series of books of by Jim Butcher called Storm Front. Really enjoyed that and I think I will go on with the series.

I have only recently really become more interested in fantasy and science fiction. I think that started when I became an obsessed fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. bigsmile

I have a 300 page fantasy magazine that various Minglers participated in to read for free if you like. It has all kinds of tidbits in it.

You go to www.lulu.com

Type in the search bar "The Black Dragon Magazine"

It should pop up to download for free.

If it doesn't work then all this means is you have to sign in a email address and a password so you can download books from the site.

I think it is a great inspiration for anyone who is just starting out with fantasy. It certainly was created for fantasy enthusiasts. You might even recognize a few of the Minglers on there. I have transformed their faces into fantasy creatures. laugh drinker

Pretty much the whole Fantasy section at the book store or the library. But a few of the ones that I have watched/read the most:

LotR series; I did like the Children of Hurin, it was more accessable than the other works.
The Recluce series
Wheel of Time (bogs down in places, but well worth the effort).
The Earthsea series, I haven't read pas the the oldest three, so I can't really say anything about those.
Elric is another one thats slow in places but can be really awesome.
Anthony's Incarnate (or is it Immortal) series
And who can forget the Black Company?
I have many many more but those have touched me enough that I remember them to this day.

The best Fantasy movie has to be Jackson's LotR (I consider all of them one giant movie since it was all shot at once.)
Anyone seen Tinman or Earthsea?

I believe anykind of effort in getting a fantasy movie created should be admired. There just isn't that many out there at all. I can count them on my fingers when it comes to "sword and sorcery" type of fantasy movies.

I wish there would be a sword and sorcery channel that really emphasize only on such movies.

Yes I know there is the syfy, but they show alot of weird movies or type of reality modern day movies of science fiction that kind of ruins the fantasy ones when they occassionally appear. Of course this is just an opinion from a die hard fan of Fantasy as a whole.

Maybe some super rich person will offer such a tv channel.

I mean a ongoing dungeon and dragons series that never ends with always new stories each year would be great actually. I know there where a couple of movies done on dungeon and dragons. Some liked them and others found them horrible.

I of course appreciate the effort alltogether.

In the end I heard that World of Warcraft will also create a movie in the near future. That would be interesting to see also.

Read? That's adorable. I prefer to write my own worlds of Fantasy. As a writer I get some weird god-like power trip over my characters! Bwuhhahahahahahaha!

Ahem... I'm ok now.

A great book I just picked up for those who like "Wizards" is a book called Wizards.

They are never before published stories of magical tales from the masters of modern fantasy.

All are short stories, which include such authors as Neil Gaiman, Garth Nix, Eoin Colfer, and many more.

That is a great book, and an easy read since it is in short story format. Sometimes it's nice not to read an epic.

I would like to see someone bring the Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance to the screen (small or large). FR could fill out a decade of weekly episodes. Dragonlance could be made into an epic movie along the lines of LotR. Of course who would play Raistlin?

one of the wisest truths i was told by a successful author is the best way to learn how to write well is to read. ALOT.

as a writer i find the more i read the more i learn. the more my vocabulary grows the more i become comfortable in my skin as an author and addict of written word.

i can only respect my fellow writers by taking the time to read their work and this is huge in fantasy because lately its been a dying art.

Wow you are telling the truth there! I always wanted a real swords and sorcery channel with commercials only about fantasy on it and if you don't want commercials you pay an additional $10 to have only fantasy series of DragonLance or Forgotten Realm, or any other movies that fall in the same category. No Science Fiction though! That stays on SyFy channel!laugh

For Raistlin it has to be for me at least someone that is menancing looking, frail, sickly, but in the eyes powerful and the staff has to look amazing including the robes in dark black but somehow with a faint glow. I know I am going out of the author's standards. lol

Actually Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have continued to write about the DragonLance just recently. At the book store I saw they had just published a new book on the gang getting back together to fight new perils of evil!

I forgot the title, but it had a wizard holding a orb with three dragons behind it in spiritual form looking at it.

The Dragon Orb?? Or the Wizard's Dragon Orb??

I should have gotten it, but I already had a stack of books to the point of dropping them. laugh
