I'll just say this. #1. That was a TOTALLY deep fucking story!! I
don't know if it was real or fake. I've never been on a bike before so
I don't know the mechanics. I mean, I've been on a bike but, have never
driven one. My dad used to take me on drives through the country with
his bike and I loved it. #2. I do believe that if someone loved someone
SO MUCH, that they would do that for the individual. I can't say if I
would or not....I don't love a specific woman or own a bike but, all I
know is, is that there is TRUE love out there somewhere (I know it ain't
here, lol) but, it's out there somewhere and that somewhere, that place,
that person and those feelings I know DO exist. Fiction or
non-fiction....I read it and my jaw dropped and actually said the words,
"NO FUCKIN WAY!!", meaning, WOW...that was just plain heroic but...he
didn't do it to be a hero.....he did it because he was in 100%, total,
unconditional love....and I thought it was beautiful. I just don't want
to think of the horrors the girl had to go through...after the accident.
That situation would not only hurt PHYSICALLY but, the MENTAL
damage.....would be TOTALLY HORRIBLE!! I would NEVER want to see
someone in that much pain......don't even want to think about it to tell
you the truth... Love's there...and it's a BITCH but....you live and
learn....it's a part of life unfortunately. I wish it wasn't like that.
But, if EVERYTHING on life was perfect and great....the special things
wouldn't mean as much or touch hearts in the right places.

Well when I first read the story I thought, "wow, that was something",
but then as I thought about it and read other post I agreed that it
really doesn't seem realistic. I have to say that I agree with usadad.
Why would he be wearing a helmet and not her to begin with?
Why crash into a wall? Now that I think about it some more, it was kind
of silly.
Did he have a death wish?
Eventhough she was wearing a helmet, she also could have died. She was
lucky, cause come on, hitting a wall on a bike going even 30 mph could
be fatal to both.

Yes, Cancer.. she could have still died... and that raises an
interesting point.
If you were in the girl's position.. would you want to know the bike was
out of control?
On the surface, this seems like a selfless act on his part, but look
deeper. It would be a pretty selfish thing to do.
If I was in her place, I believe I would want to make my own decisions
about my life and chances of survival. Even dropping yourself to the
pavement may be preferable to hitting a building at let's say 50 MPH.
The passenger needs the facts in order to make an informed decision. I
would want to know what was going on.. if for nothing else, to make my
peace with God in those last few moments.

I decided to try a test yesterday morning while I was out riding in
North
Alabama.
I ride a 2006 Honda Shadow Aero which is a 750 cc bike. It weighs 550
pounds. I weigh 200 and if I had a passenger, let's assume she weighed
110.
I started down a
hill at 50 mph.. clutch engaged and under throttle to maintain that
speed. As I let off the throttle, the bike immediately started slowing.
I kicked it down from 5th to 4th gear and it continued slowing. I was
now at about 36 mph. I dropped it into 3rd and it slowed dramatically
again. I had taken off half my speed by dropping it 2 gears.
I decided not to strain it anymore and resumed my normal ride. I am not
going to endanger my bikes motor to make a point in this forum. But I
believe I could have brought it to a safe stop or to a point where an
unavoidal accident would have minimized the damage and injuries.
My bike is a cruiser, and the gearing may be different on a crotch
rocket so draw your own conclusions. We don't know what he was riding.
My conclusion: Although the story has pretty much been proven as an
e-mail myth, If it DID happen..The rider of the bike was an utter moron
if he indeed made the decision he made. He had absolutely no business
being on a motorcycle himself, let alone with a passenger. Then he
repeatedly made bad decisions that endangered the life of his passenger
rather than let her make those decisions. Loving hero?? I hope she
didn't date him again!!

WHAT THE HELL????? it was just a lil story... why do some people have to
look into it so far... even to the point of "testing" it? talk about
ignorance... it was a cute story, get over it.

The story was sad. It makes you think. If it makes you change one
thing you have done for the better, then it worked.
However, I am one to look for scientific facts and solid answers. I
appreciate the posts that did that. I now have some knowledge I didnt
have before.
I will also keep in mind NOT to get on a bike without a helmet nor will
I ride with someone who doesnt have experience with bikes. Thank you
for the fact finders.

Samantha... according to your profile, perhaps you should look into
things a little more. However, that's neither here nor there but you
can't take everything at face value.
These forums are for discussion and the exchange of information which is
what we were doing. Perhaps in your world, that's ignorance. In mine,
it's communication. If everyone thought the same, there would be no need
for these forums but it's the debate and different opinions that make it
worthwhile.

yes it is sad if it happened, but it was totally irresponsible of him,in
most places it is illegal to ride with out a helmet.

I agree with usadad when he says once your life is the line all you
think your own life. In the other hand that was a really good story, its
suppose to make you reflect and make you think would you do it? I
honestly wouldnt.

is the principle of the story

how far would you go for someone that you love so much
he made the wrong choice? who knows what was goint through his mind at
that time and as far as the story
it was sad, very sad.
