CoyoteGirl......has anyone asked for your help?

Has either of the children, the mother, or the father?

A concerned relative?

I can tell you, if someone turned up at my house with warm clothes and shoes, for my kids out of the blue, unasked, and unknown to me...I would be gobsmacked and a little defensive...

My kids and I never wear shoes, except when they are at school, and when they were littler, if someone turned up with well intentioned charity...I would have thanked them profusely, and directed them somewhere else.

Most won't appreciate your 'help', if unasked for...

Perhaps strike a friendship with the mother, and ask her if she has wintered in this area before...then ask her how you can help.

I agree, I would see it as a way of telling me that I'm not capable of looking after my own. Travelers here see it as sticking your nose in business that is not yours, and they react accordingly.

they have the money to buy a house but they find "something wrong" with everyone they look at. its getting colder here at night and i was concerned...

if you're that close to the family to know of their financial situation, i am sure you're that close to offer to babysit the kids one cold night in the winter and give the adults a chance to go out together alone for dinner?

Leave it alone, if the kids are fed and they have a roof over their head I am sure they are fine.

The parents are living in the same situation. They will no when conditions become unbearable.

Unfortunately, Jess...a family like that in the States would most likely be put through the ringer by Children's Services.

Sticking your nose up someones azz is one thing, sticking your entire head up there is yet another.

When I was a child.. a friends house burned down, no Insurance, they lost everything.
So they lived in the chicken coop for many years after that,
The kids were always clean and clearly well fed and most of all, they were happy.
Hard times make us much stronger!!!

Renting is a hell of a lot of money down the toilet, gone forever and nothing to show for it.
at least living in a camper.. overhead is really low (so to speak) much easier to pay off bills and save money.

If people worried as much about themselves as they do about others, There would be a lot less screwed up people around.\

You are only 18, you haven't had to really live your own life yet,
You have no idea what is waiting for you in the future, but will soon find out.

come back in 20 years, then give us your opinion.

Seriously not meant to be condescending, Just being real.
and I just don't do sugar coating.

you are right i am only 18 but some 18 yr olds know a lot more than you think. i just might be one. you never know.

Did you miss this part?

Seriously, maybe you could get them (through donations, car washes, etc) one of those big canopies or screened-in porch type things to add onto their existing dwelling. Do the kids seem content? Does the dwelling smell badly?

maybe you could send them on an all-inclusive vacation to a warm and sunny destination?

One more thing if you don't mind: I think you have a heart the size of Texas or Alaska. If I had children I would want you to be part of their lives. There's an expression, "No good deed goes unpunished" so beware. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law's house burned to the ground and so I took their cat in until they could get settled. Now, they want their cat back "afterall it's MY cat" they said.
So, I think you are wonderful for thinking of others but don't get your heart broken. flowerforyou
