Don't you just love it when a "punter" turns up at an antiques valuation show, full of hope that the vase aunty Mable left in her will will make them and over night millionaire only to find out that their "treasure" is only worth couple of quid? laugh laugh laugh laugh I'm watching an antiques road show called Flog It on BBC2, I haven't had such a laugh in a long time, the disappointment on some faces...........Priceless!! laugh laugh laugh

I love that show!!!!!!!!! I love the junk and the stuff people paid a buck for at a yard sale that turns out to be worth boatloads of cash laugh

But, I'm a history geek, I love hearing about the history of some of the stuff, that's my favorit part

Me too, I am fascinated at the history attached to some of the furniture. Yesterday someone had a blanket box that was over 250 years old. It went unsold at auction.

I've seen a few AR shows where they had to tell the person their items was fake or a reproduction. My empathy factor makes it painful for me.

And I especially love the stuff that's been handed down in families, where there's stories attached, I think those are the best.

I don't know if you have it there, but we have a show called History Detectives which tries to trace family objects to see whether the stories attached are true (or could be). That's a great show, though I think I'm the only one who thinks so but I find it fascinating.

when the show came here
A lady had bought a box of stuff at an estate sale for $25.00. she brought in a couple of the items....she was particularly, proud of some little vase thing...it was worthless...but the guy asked what else was in the box.....she said there were 4 little plates...and I brought one of them for you to see....

Well, they were worth $30,000 each......shes said she really didn't like them , at first....but now she LOVES them.....

I love to watch Antiques Road Show, but yeah, it'd be my luck if I went there!! I'd love to see a show about the ones who end up with nothing for value. I'll bet that is funny!!

My favourite episode happened in England
A lady came in with a massive painting (Very large) with hefty documentation, which was associated with painting which was supposed to be by Constable.

The guy said it was a well known fake and is not worth more than 100,000 pounds. She got so upset and started slagging off the expert they had to cut the insults and cut the programme.
She was hoping they will price it in millions as she had paid way over the top for it
I love it when that happens . People with more money than sense buy something that they know f@#k all about it.
