i'm not the best person to offer computer advice, but could you try to start it up in safe mode and restore to an earlier date?

if you have the os cd put it in and you should get a screen that says do you wnat to install or repair o s

try using the repair

and lets hope you get lucky

and yes it could be an over heating issue (when was the last time you blew all the dust out of it with a can of air

remember if you open it up to blow it out that dust is usually very fine and very messy take it outside to do it

if you touch anything inside the case make sure your bare arm is touching the frame of the opening first to help prevent static electricity from frying the component you touch

if you are a smoker chances are grater this could be the issue

your memory (ram) may have also went bad

i have to go so try it again and write down what the screen says b4 it shuts down and post it (this could be of help to those that know more about this sort of thing)

good luck flowerforyou

Possible causes.

Dust and dirt is blocking your CPU fan and makes your PC reboots (its a safe way so not to burn your CPU)

Depending how old is your PC it could also be that the paste that transfers the heat from your CPU to the heat dissipator is old and dry (not likely but probable)

One (if you have more ten one) of your memory stick is defective

PSU (power supply) is not sending the right amount of voltage and makes the system crash and reboot

Virus and OS corruption could cause that

Registry errors can also be a cause

For registry errors, check on Microsoft website they have a program (don't remember the name) to rebuild the registry without having to erase and reinstall everything.

Do not take the fan and heat dissapetor out unless you know what you are doing try using your vaccum cleaner and at best buy one of those air bottle to spray the dust out.

Most of the time pcs reboot on their own because they have experienced a disruption "critical error" and machines are set by default to reboot at that point. You need to stop the rebooting to try and find the problem--or at least run Malwarebyetes (free--www.malwarebytes.com, and/or SpyBot Search and destroy; also go to Trend Micro and run a virus check online free. To disable the auto reboot on critical error, do the following: (Disable the "Auto Restore" point part of XP before running the above suggested fixes, just put "Restore Point" in the "Help and Support" section and it will tell you how to temporarily disable it. Good Luck.

1.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2.
Click the Advanced tab.

3.
Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

4.
Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

5.
Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Sorry, I didn't read your post carefully. If it's rebooting at the Windows Startup Screen you can try slipping in the XP disk, and trying an auto repair--Don't "reinstall"; sometimes even without a repair disk it can make some correcitons. Otherwise, try unplugging it, waiting for minute, then reboot, then it's shop time.

Most PC's bios has a thermal reading, if you can get into the bios, usually by pressing delete or f-10 then you can see if the processor is overheating, or take the side cover off (if it's a tower and not a laptop) and look inside to see if all the fans are spinning. if the biggest one on the mainboard is not spinning it's getting hot.

If they are all spinning, I would guess regestry is corrupt or another piece of hardware is causing it. Time for geek squad.

Hope you luck..all the best...

Can the power supply or motherboard is the same as can warm the cpu fan if it is not working exactly how long is this computer you have?

Good Answers! (Thumbs-up Smiley here) It certainly can be hardware, even a loose card will sometimes cause it, or currupt system files, along with corrupt registry.

It either can be a leak in your power button or some how your computer got bricked by a corrupt file.
Mine did the same thing and I repaced my button and it fixed the problem. If it is bricked, you might want to find your restore cd and try that.

The most common cases for pc shutdown is due to corrupted power cable either from the computer or from the outlet, fan going out in the power supply or you have a video card problem such as overheating - as well as the motherboard leaking acid and destroying components.

have you installed any new hardware or software that might be incompatible with your OS?

Usually Windows will give a blue screen of death for Hardware related errors. If it is a virus than that can also cause boot problems...you should go into safe mode and do virus scan

If there is a virus, let the program remove it. If it shows no virus than I suggest resetting your computer.

You can reset it by unplugging all cables from computer, open the tower, find a small round battery that resembles a watch battery or a quarter, remove it and let the computer sit for 5 minutes. Then place it back in, plug in cables and restart.

If that does not fix your problem then you will have to either use your windows disk to do a disk check or reformat. Good luck.

Could be a bad copy of windows...
Especially if you forget to activate it.

And if you upgraded to Windows 7.
Then you will need to downgrade to Vista or Xp
to get it to stop rebooting.

Usually if you restore to a previous restore point, a corrupted registry gets restored too. Hmmmm....

If you manage to get it up, I recommend Avast Home anti virus boot scan. It will scan your boot up files for you before going to your desktop and stop any problems there

I use Avast Home
Malwarebytes free
Advance System care free

and of course Windows Malicious software scan on my computer.

This same problem happened to my brother, you're gonna have to reinstall windows because your registry is corrupted. That will do the trick.
