Dear Diary,
I am soooo excited about going out tonight, the next 2 hours is going to drag before it's time! Tonight is our annual kick off party for the only tug-a-war across the Mississippi River. Iowa Vs. Illinois! Go Illinois!!! My friend and I have been invited to a private dock party with free food and booze! PLUS once it gets closer to dark, we are heading out on a party barge to view the fireworks out on the river! It should be a blast! |

Dear diary, I thought I'd come home and relax on my tail end of my vacation. Noooooooooo mother nature had different plans. We had a rainstorm last night that dumped 7.3 inches of rain in one hour and 42 minutes. The town next to mine had a flash flood beyond imagination. 17 foot wall of water damn near washed out the town. 4 bridges washed downstream. Post office washed away. City park completely destroyed. Many homes washed away. Water contaminated. No cook food order. So I volunteered to use my pickup truck to deliver food to the relief workers all day donated by a kind townsman. Then later in the afternoon I volunteered to help a freind clorinate wells for the townspeople. I'm freaking exhausted. And I'm blown away that noone was injured or killed after seeing the damage. A large steel span bridge is completely missing assumed to be downriver 10 miles.

Good work Biker!

....or is that "Good bike worker!"

All cleanup workers had to get tetunis shots. I got one 2 weeks ago. People tried to hand my freinds and me money which we refused for clorinating wells. We just laughed. Gotta help your neighbors no matter what. I see a night in the future where I won't have to buy a drink at the bar though. We mustve walked 20 miles. Mud to my knees. Red cross was there helping everyone. I drank 3 gallons of bottled water. And got a nice sunburn. It was nice to see my freinds and family all ok. Some very close calls.

Sorry you had to come home to such a disater. You are a pretty good guy.

The picture I have up is of a steel span bridge laying in the middle of what used to be a town park. They are not touching nothing in the park. Sunday congressmen will debate whether to declare it a disaster area.

I really am stiff today carole. I feel like I got hit by a truck. I pushed it too hard. My neighbors look worse. Seeing people with boxes of important paperwork and family photos out on their lawns was heartbreaking.
