What type of a person are you in thought and pratice?
If someone gets you a gift, or a card, do YOU try to return to them the same, or think it, but never process the act? Or just except it and, think how nice that was.. Just wanting to see how most think here on this issue?? |

I give gift because I want to please or say thank or just thinking of you and I hope i do not get one in return because she feels she has to, the worst gifts are the one you get out of duty, pity or whatever reason other then they wanted to.

In the USA I found that in my environment whoever gives me a gift is undoubtedly expects something.
At first I couldn't believe this. One day a guy brought me a nice box of chocolates 24 days later he was asking me to fix his computer, which cost me 9 times the price of that bloody box of sodding chocolates.Being naive I didn't charge him. The scenario continued until I decided not to accept anything from any one except my business partner with whom I have a very good relationship and needless to say also from Europe too. May be California is like this and other States are different I don't know |

I feel totally the same now somewhere down the line I may get that person something just cause I was thinking of them. But not due just to the fact they got me something at that moment. If I buy something for someone I do not expect something back in return except a simple thank you. I don't do it in order to make that person feel as if they need to do the same but because I wanted to. |

True gifts are given from the heart...not from obligation or with an expectation of a return.

i'm a giver and it used to bug me when i received a gift or compliment because "thank you" just didn't seem to express my joy or gratitude...but now i just say "thank you" and generally give something in return at some point...usually a goodie from my kitchen

If someone gives me a Birthday gift, Christmas gift etc I would make sure to give them a gift in return. The same with cards. If they gave an unexpected gift just for fun I would wait awhile and then give them an unexpected gift.

If someone gives me a gift as part of a reciprocal relationship then I am going to try to do likewise when it will mean something to that person.
Unfortuneately over time I have learned some gifts come with strings attached. Or as a power play. Those gifts I refuse or simply ignore. I like to give gifts and often do anonomously because it is just less complicated. |

If I receive a gift or a card. I would do the same thing in return.

Sometimes the situation calls for a response, sometimes it doesn't. Most times I will send a card or give them a call. |

Fixing it was easy follow the following rule Never use a screw when a nail and hammer will do PS any time (as long as it is tomorrow) |

I'm honoured...
and filled with humble respect. I don't keep 'score'...(feel compelled to return the 'favour) a gift is an expression of care. |

Almost sounds like something Jerry Seinfeld would ask.
I usually at least thank them personally. |

I would certainly return the gesture whether it is by card or gift, but that rarely happens because I am always the first to give. I will always give of myself when I want to because I want to and that comes from within. I never have expected anything in return. That's just the way I am. I would rather end up poor in life, but with a heart that loves than a person who is rich and keeps everything to himself. |
