Maybe I'm old fashioned or whatever...but I generally just use their name. Of course then again I rarely say "dammit Jane! You look sexy!", kind of would make me feel like an ape or something "me Tarzan, you Jane"...

Especially if her name isn't Jane.

Well...obviously it was an example.

I guess I should refer to the opposite sex as Jane from now on.

Or look up 'example' in the dictionary...maybe I'll just edit out the name since none of you can really see the point of the statement
without the name being there.

Chillax Fear and don't loathe me. I meant it as a joke, we all understand what you were saying.

I'm chill.smokin

Since I have your attention, what's your favorite Hunter S. Thompson book?

I use the word book because The Great Sharkhunt wasn't a novel

I actually only have Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I haven't even finished it yet, but I'm about half-way through it.

Is it insulting to refer to a woman as woman. Some examples- Chill woman, or D*mmit woman, you're sexy. I realize that when a lady cooks for you, it'll piss anyone off to say,"D*mmit woman it's cold." and slide the plate across the table. But when it's meant in fun, is it sexist?

Bah, I have a name... if you can't use it, it's disrespectful. Really, call me muffin or an assortment of things, but just not woman. It just gets under my skin a little.

Ouch...maybe I should have followed my comment with a smile. I was just making humor. Too bad you didn't take it that way!

Sorry, sarcasm and humor is lost in typing. Kind of like now, this is me being sarcastic...this is me being serious, see the difference?

I don't care, I was just throwing my two cents into the conversation.

I've read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Great Shark hunt, which is a collection of columns, articles, and short stories, which I would highly recommend, and Hell's Angels which I cared so little for I never finished because I simply didn't like it. My father finished it though, and he rarely reads, but he likes motorcycles. I've been thinking about buying The Rum Diaries next, but I'd like to have the opinion of a fan first however.

I see your point but I prefer to give pepole the benefit of doubt.

I've heard great things about The Rum Diaries, I would definitely check it out. I heard about the same with Hell's Angels, but I'll probably pick it up anyway just because. I actually plan on getting The Great Shark Hunt next, just have to finish Las Vegas first.

I have always wondered why a guy would swear before trying to give a compliment? Kind of a left handed compliment.

If you dig counter-culture One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a fantastic psychedelic novel. The movie really doesn't even tell the same story. The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, tell's Kesey's story real well. There's a small section that talks about how he wrote it that is very interesting. It's not my favorite Ken Kesey novel however.

well i seen threads where women have complained about the following:
being called babe or baby
being called chicks
being called ma'am
women refered to as "females"
being called hun or honey
question why their man always call them by their name
i even seen one where she didn't like to be called "lady"
and it depends on who is saying it that it doesn't bother a woman to be called a woman...hmmmm
so your guess is as good as mine on this one:smile:

I have always wondered why a guy would swear before trying to give a compliment? Kind of a left handed compliment.

I was having a hard time finding examples. I've only said it once when it wasn't supposed to be funny.
I had a mistress once, and she was in the worst mood I had ever seen her in, walking around the house, just going off on her boyfriend and myself. Her boyfriend wouldn't say anything to bring it to her attention how she was behaving, so I simply said ,"Woman, chill." in a stern voice. Maybe I was a jerk for saying it, but she did start to control herself, and get a handle on her emotions.

It's obviously going to be different for each person. One woman is going to like you calling her baby and another is going to hate it. Get to know the person before using cute little names and you should be ok.

From the feedback I've been getting, I guess I shouldn't use it as a pet name. That seems to be the consensus of the ladies.

Well, as I said, you need to get to know someone before using a pet name. If you try it and they're ok with it, go for it. But no, I don't think most ladies would like it.

My answer when a guy says to me "woman....." :

"Little boy....when you learn my name, you can talk to me again. Or when you grow to be a MAN!"mad

C'mon now, I didn't say I use "little girl" as a pet name.

No, but a little boy (or girl) will use any word he/she can think of to describe someone or something, and not think about the feelings of others when they say it. How many times have you been in a store or a restaurant of any kind and a child will say "Mommy, look over there at that fat man!!"

So when I say "little boy" I mean think about what you are saying before you say it.....don't say it first before you know more about the lady in question.
