I can get along in four languages and have traveled some but I still have a L of a time with British speak.

So, I was playing over on a mostly British site I stumbled onto...it's a hoot BTW... Mainly a group of ladies who met on a wedding planning site...drinking tea in the afternoon & getting pleasantly smashed in the evenings...when I came across this post:

I'm soooo ashamed! So, I missed me time & as I was just recently fitted with the coil, I was afraid it would get stuck in the baby's 'ead. So, I went into the loo at work & must've not closed the door properly, when one of the ladies opened the door only to find me foot on the loo with me 'and up me foof & now she's told 'alf the office that I was in there for a diddle!

I LMFAO after I converted it from British to Texan...oh my!

So how many of you can easily convert regional colloquialisms & vernacular into American-speak? And how hard is it for our foreign friends? biggrin

I've spoken with people from other speaking origin that did not speak good English or different English and all i have to say is to them I'm the strange speaking one.

I do not need English that fits my view of how it should be written to enjoy a good conversation, not even bad grammar will tick me off (like to many here are) as long as i can understand and be understood is all i need.

Why?

Because although we share a common tounge it still sounds like a foreign language at times.
