Best bet is to distance yourself from him, chances are he won't listen to the help you give...or he won't think he has a problem. Better to steer clear until he gets his head straight...chances are it won't happen, so be prepared to lose a friend forever.

This is not rocket science. Most schizos are not violent and or dangerous. Mostly delusional. Call emerg......tell them where he lives. Tell them what you told us. They are highly qualified to handle such things.

In the US they have to be a danger to themselves or others (violent outbursts, unneccesary profanity in public places, etc.). Its just 1 call to emerg and an ambulance will be on the way. They will assess him from there. If he acts normal they will probably leave and do nothing. If he acts the way he does.....he will be taken.

How do you think most of the mentally ill come to me???? Family, friends, who have talked to authorities.

Thank you all so much for your advice. I am meeting up with another mutual friend today to talk about it. And then we are going to take it from there. Even if I do lose him as a friend I still want to to try to see if I can help him before I do. I know that a lot of you might think I am nuts, but I just cannot see a friend suffer.
