I'm 42 and I'd go back to school in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

There's a line in a book by Wally Lamb which basically says "you'll be 45 when you finish your degree if you go back, but you'll still be 45 if you don't."

If it's what you want, do it flowerforyou

Somehow I don't think I would have been able to go back to school/university if it had not been for me getting free education here in the United Kingdom. There is no excuse for me not taking up the offer, is there?

no. there is no excuse except abject indifference. but that is so neo-rejectionary.

Absolutely not! His point was, you'll still get older, regardless. So, age is no excuse. If people don't want to, for whatever reason, at least be honest and not throw out some bs. Believe me, if I could go back to school for free, I'd be there as soon as I could get a shower laugh I've been working on my degree since I was 18, one of these days, I'll finish it. One of my best friends just finished her degree 2 months ago. I admire her more than I can express.

I have 2 daughters that are back in school. The oldest (almost 48) worked a well paying job for a long time and put my granddaughter thru college on her own . She has a 4 yr degree in Business from Syracuse but not doing what she really wanted todo.. She now works for and attends The School of Mining in Colorado to get a Geology degree. My youngest daughter (43) was in the Navy 12 yr, had to get out because of health reasons. She already has an associate degree and is now working to get a bachelors degree in Human Resourses..and they are both on the deans list...I'm a proud mom..

Hey, my dad STARTED school at 68 because it was something he always wanted but never got around to as we were growing up. He doesn't take a full class load but he'll finish up next year at the age of 74. So no, I really don't think you can be *too* old.

Don't let other people's BS stop you from getting an education or from expanding your knowledge base (degree seeking or not) if you feel so inclined. Education has intrinsic value!

Good luck!

my mother will be sixty this year...and just a year ago, she added some extra letters to the end of her name, heh.

continuing your education is almost always a positive. the only real downside are the...bills.

Bills do get in the way for us older folks who have mortgages etc, but there are always ways around it.I am totally agreeing with the new scheme set by the British government;offering a way to older people ( whom they deem dependable and are most likely to stick to their studies) the opportunities are there should you want to take them. They are offering free places at colleges and universities, financial rewards and paying for child care for people who want to go back to school.

Never to old to continue learning. When I do stop I think my time on this world will be over.

People in Western Europe, particularly Denmark, go to school till they're dead. These people are learning all the time, and I do believe much of the cost is subsidized by the govt.
I know babysitting is, allowing mothers to GO TO SCHOOL.
Like to travel?

You're never too old to further your education. And like I've told other people; you're going to be the age you're going to be, whether you go back or not, so you might as well be productive and enjoy yourself. Congrats on that, I love learning.flowerforyou
