I watched a programme last night about Miss Mini UK, a beauty pageant for children.

I was absolutely disgusted. These little girls made it obvious that it was their mums who were pushing them to do these things, not them. At one point, 1 of the girls (aged 9) was asked if she would be more comfortable with glasses, instead of contacts, she replied "yes, glasses are more comfortable" so the interviewer asked her "why dont you wear glasses instead then", to which she replied "my mum would go mad" That pretty much sums it up to me! These kids are losing out on normal child stuff because they are so busy working on looking good. Exploitation is what it is, without a doubt imo.

This is one of the girls who was in it....she lost and took a strop at the end cos her mum had made her believe she would win it.

Let me know ur feelings on this.

I think its more than weird, its very selfish! these parents werent even listening to their kids at all....if they said they were tired, they would push them to practise more. Big hair, fake tan, fake nails, brow plucking, they were basically making them look like little barbies!

These mothers appeared to me like they just didnt care about their kids at all, they cared about how they looked more.

Diabolical.

Well thats 1 of things that made me wanna puke, there was a bit where one of the mothers was showing off her daughters online portfolio, and there was a pic of her looking over her naked shoulder, and she was saying, "yeh, i like to take sexy pictures of her"!! she was 9 yrs old!

I think the whole pageant scene is child abuse.

I have entered my daughter in contest when she was 2yrs old. She won her age category and then won the whole pageant. I only did this once. Would I do it again. No It was just for fun. She is now 21 and has never did it again. I agree, these pageants have went way to far. It is one thing if the child likes doing this, another if it is something the parents want. JMO

I lived in Denver when the Jon Bennet Ramsey murder happened, my daughter was the same age at the time. I could not believe how heavily the mom was into pageants, we thought the mom was more than a bit obsessed with it.

children should be celabrated for their innosence
not abused to re live their parents warped dreams

Thing is, the parents, or should i say mothers, have brainwashed their kids into believing that image is everything, they r almost groomed from a very young age. One mother proudly announced that her daughter had plastic surgery at 7yrs old to pin back her ears, and said she was pro plastic surgery....the daughter was then interviewed alone and asked if she was ever gonna have surgery again, and she replied " i think not"..

i've always found that stuff creepy. little girls should be little girls, not dress up like women and try to act like them noway.

really, all pageants seem pretty pointless to me. miss america? who cares? it doesn't even seem sexy to me. on the other hand, the hawaiian tropic, silvercash, and reef drool contests really know how to do it right.
