Topic: Which of these is NOT a real sport...? | |

Golf?
Table tennis? Billiards? POKER?!? Boccie? Curling? ( isn't his just another version of Boccie?) Racing? (Note, Not foot or cycle, I mean any MOTORIZED racing) And secondly Would professional "Wrestlers" be considered athletes even though they state that they are not in a sport but in the entertainment business? |

I agree, I don't think any of those would be a sport. And wrestlers would not be considered athletes.

golf. its a status not a sport
billiads and poker are`nt sports either and curling would be alot better if they replaced the puck thingy, with a miget |

To me Poker is no sport at all to the best it is a brain game and I'm so tired to turn my TV put it on my sport channel and be stuck with a bunch of card player around a table for hours lifting cards, wow what a sport.
Golf if you ever played it you know it's a sport. Table tennis most of us would break in two trying to hit those little balls the professionals would through at us. Billiards is not a conventional sports you need physical skills and brain to play that. Boccie ??? never heard of that. Curling is like billiard need skills and balance so on the border line. Racing is a sport with the help of a machine. Wrestling you gotta be in shape to do that so kind of a sport just that it's all stage and prearrange so the notion of sport (competition) doesn't fit in there. |

every competition can be considered sport
as well as entertainment and if you are competing with other entertainment then i guess entertainment could be a sport to my movie is gonna make more than your movie and so on sport is what you make it |

every competition can be considered sport .... sport is what you make it Yeah, what makes a sport a sport? |

If poker is a sport, then chess is a sport.
I don't see how "professional wrestling" is sport. If it were, then what if you had a tv show, like a soap opera, centered around bulky muscled people who theatrically toss around furniture when upset. Would that be a sport? Pro. Wrestling is simple acting, with athletic-seeming people. (Sure, many of them are legitimately athletes in their own right, but thats besides the point.) |

OK, actually I take back the post about golf. I don't think any of them except golf is a sport. Poker, chess etc are just games. What differenciates a sport from a game is the fact that it requires physical abilities for the point of winning a real competition, which golf does. Wresling in general is a sport but not the big shows, that's just entertainment, not even a game.

Beachy,
If golf (with golf carts and those guys that hold your cubs) is a sport, does that make target shooting a sport? I see them as very similar... not very aerobic, not requiring a ton of strength, but taking a lot of skill and concentration, and being competitive. |

answer - if curling is an Olympic sport, i dont see why poker or boccie cant be. i think that all sports demand a certain level of prowess and skill regardless of the physical demand. and that if a = a and c = c, then a sport = a sport regardless of the opinions of the many. i poke fun at OP because there are a lot of elitists that question the genuineness of a lot of sports (stock-car, snowboarding, bowling, etc etc) and i take umbrage in that. i hope this clears that up.
