Topic: Facebook is cool? | |
---|---|
I've heard people saying that it is great that you can find individuals that you've not seen or heard from in decades.
People have found me on facebook after not being in touch for 20 and in some cases 30+ years. Why? If we had been friends or gotten along so well 30 years ago I'd have stayed in touch, no? The main reason (there might be a handful of exceptions) I fell out of touch with these people is because we were not all that close and did not get along that great. So why is it so cool that they found me? IMO Facebook is highly overrated. |

i completely agree.
except that now that i've moved, its been a fantastic way for me to keep in touch with my sisters and best friend. and my new brother in argentina. and my uncle in iran. other than that... useless. and i hate the apps. |

I like facebook. There are many reasons I may have lost touch with someone. If we found each other again via facebook, that's a good thing to me.

I get that too but I don't mind it so much. I created a page to keep in touch with my dozens of cousins who all still live in Michigan who I never get to see. I get a lot of requests from people I went to high school with, some of whom I barely remember. In some cases, I'd rather not keep in touch and in others, it's been fun getting to know people again.

I'm more on Myspace than Facebook. But I still check them out. I would prefer this site over the two.

Most of the people who ever meant anything to me are dead, so I'm not really looking for my best friend's sister's boyfriend's cousin's tattoo guy...but I can see how it could be helpful to others...

I did say there are a handful of exceptions for me. However, overall I do not like the site at all. I also despise the fact that if someone is on your friend list you are forced to read their brain droppings. Do I care that my cousin I have not seen in 20 years is going to meet a friend for drinks after he goes grocery shopping? Seems almost as inane as twitter. Not quite though... |

Actually, you are not forced, you can opt out of the status messages. Whenever they post something, you'll see a drop down arrow, click on it and it will give you the option to hide their updates. |

Thank you!!!!!!! I was trying to figure that out. Those messages were driving me crazy. |
