the person you spoke with was obviously stupid,by the same token i have called tech support for my low-tech webtv and have felt like i was being talked down to. not all of us are 'techies'. we prefer humans over machines. we pray for the day when it all crashes. maybe then our humanity will return. be seeing you

Ah, but it's our choice to hide behind technology.

I went to the park yesterday to read. It was awesome. We still have a choice.
 yes,we do have a choice. but society is letting the 'techies' take over. and only by it all crashing and burnig will we regain our humanity. see 'Farenheit 451'. be seeing you

wanna see what'll happen? watch gilgamesh.

and you act like techies are the devil. and thats unfair to someone who's chosen that as their career. you have a right to live without. which makes me laugh because here you are on the computer... in a forum.

indifferent

"do as i say not as i do"?????
actually,i'm on a webtv. i have no desire to 'upgrade' i have seen how technology dehumanizes people. i'll spend my time and money in the real world, tyvm. be seeing you

what do you think webtv is? what do you think tv is? what do you think a car is? your refrigerator? your electricity?

LOL its all technology.

yes... nerds rule the common world.

WE nerds have each our special talents that integrate humanity into technology. but if you sit there and fear technology and the techies who've been creating it since the dawn of time (hence the WHEEL!!!)

then wouldn't it be best for you to be living in a mud hut with beeswax candles? oh.. and don't forget... plumbing is one of the oldest created technologies.

its amazing what we take advantage of and complain about. :)

Ain't it funny. I use to work Tech Support myself (still do some web-support for a couple websites for the hell of it), can never get over how clueless some people can be, and then want to make out techie's to be the bad guys.

Depends on the help desk person, I guess. We had one who worked for our company a few years ago and no matter what you asked him, he'd talk down to you. Didn't matter what the issue was.

I've known tech people like that. They give the rest a bad name. I do know how it happens after dealing with too many people who can follow basic instructions, but that's when you should get out of the field. You're no longer useful in that capacity IMO.

i have no problem with technology. if i did i wouldn't be here. my problem is the fact that technology is dehumanizing some people. people who would rather shop Amazon instead of spending a day in a used bookstore. be seeing you

If someone cannot handle being on a help desk and helping people who sometimes will have no idea how to do something, perhaps that is not the right field for them.

yeah but you're generalizing. they say there are always exceptions. i think the people you talk about are exceptions. the ones who won't function without it.

but if, say tomorrow, all technology vanished, we would be back to living in holes in the ground trying to figure out how to hand sew hides together with a bone needle. get me?

and i shop on amazon and other online stores becuase the things i want aren't offered in the town i live in.

i think you generalize to justify the fear.

you have your opinion and i have mine.

and TECHNOLOGY isn't dehumanizing anything.

HUMANS are dehumanizing the world.

So, you never shop online when you can't find a book you're looking for in a store?

I agree, that's why I got out of doing it on a daily basis. I do it well but when I do it too much I get too jaded toward the people I'm trying to help.
