Topic: The Right to Bear Arms~

Guns and bars don't mix. In the frontier days when many men and some women carried guns just as a matter of course and necessity, guns were ofter barred in bars. Nowadays, the need for honest citizens to carry protection goes up but the laws and rules get ever more complicated. In many ways, "self defense" is a crime.

I wonder what would have happened on 9/11 if ten percent of the men in the plane were carrying concealed firearms? I bet the attackers would not have tried in the first place.

Few crimes are committed by concealed permit holders.

It seems to me that if 10% of the people on board those planes were carrying guns, they would have gone down anyway killing all. I don't think planes are built to withstand a fire fight in the air are they?

Just curious.

I think the owners of the bars should be allowed to decide whether their willing to take the risks.

Indeed. Just as airlines should decide what is safe on aircraft.

If you walk into my bar, i can have you check in you firearm at the door or ask you to leave. You can come to my bar and leave at will.

But, if don't have a problem with you taking a gun into my bar, then by all means, the law should not stand in the way.

In fact, the laws have no say in this matter...

This analogy, is what our country was founded upon.

I absolutely believe that it is wrong for guns to be banned anywhere, bar or restaurant, alcohol or not. Criminals will be armed. Insane people will be armed. Upstanding citizens that are required to give up their weapons for the sake of "the safety of others" are left as victims when things go wrong.

I wish I could find the testimony of a woman in Texas(?) who was with her elderly parents sitting in a restaurant when a man walked in and opened fire for no apparent reason. Slaughtered a bunch of people including her father. They had just passed the no carry law so her pistol she USED to carry in her purse wasn't available. Or the one her father USED to have on his hip was home on the shelf. I don't recall the exact details but the point is, they could have, and WOULD have shot that man before he killed so many. Yes, people would have died that day at the hand of a madman, but far fewer and not her father had they been armed. She made a very compelling argument in the Congressional hearings.

You don't want two pissed off drunk idiots whipping out guns and shooting each other? Neither do I! Who would? They miss, innocent people get hurt or die. So lets "remove guns, problem solved" you say? I don't know about you but I don't stand much chance of protecting myself (or other innocent bystanders) against an angry full grown male with a knife or broken bottle. I see guns as an equalizer in this messed up world of violence we live in. I wish I could go ANYWHERE in this country carrying a pistol. Just my opinion.ohwell

Hard to argue with that logic. hmmmm

The owners do have the choice to allow or not allow the guns in their bar/restaurant. I am not sure if the person carrying has to declare their weapon by law or not...

Planes probably cannot take multiple bullet holes for long as the pressure in the cabin would change...however, the people in the buildings may not have been killed...

i can honestly see both sides of the people who carry guns and those who think this will add more trouble...

The whole thing though, does come down to the constitutional right...

It sounds like it's going to be like the Wild West saloons again.

That is what you think...

I theorize that violence in bars will be dramatically reduced. But this is just based on facts about other places that eased up on firearm regs...

Either way, it is now time to sit back and watch...glasses

I've seen bars fights. They are usually brought on because a person that is drunk wants to fight even more and thinks they are tougher than they are. I'm for the right to carry arms...but the bar has a duty as well. even in a fist fight....things get damaged, people get hurt and can sue the bar if the bar doesn't try to either prevent it (having bouncers) or trying to break it up. I see it being worse if a angry drunk has a gun. so therefore I think it should be up to the bar to decide. Kind of like smoking...the bar should be able to decide if they want smokers or a non-smoking bar and the customers can decide if they want to go to the bar and follow the rules

Yeah, too expensive...frustrated

Mathmatics tells us there is no reason to be skiddish. But this does not become fact until it is proven in this situation.

If we followed our system of checks and balances, this would be the case...

I just know too many hot heads that go to bars. I avoid bars when the just turned 21 crowd goes to. But even the older crowd has hot heads. when they drink...some will pick a fight because they thought someone looked at them funny. at least with fists....the bouncer can take them down easier. kinda hard to take down a bullet

but that is just me

Well I wouldn't be afraid to go to a bar, I wasn't then and wouldn't be now, bars just don't do much for me at this stage of my life. We shall see as you said.

Indeed. So bars may want to ban them. But that is up to the bar.

I definitely agree with that. even banning smoking....they could lose business. and let's face it...the bar is in it for the business and to make money. Luckily the bar I hang out at is mostly older and very laid back. the closest people get to a fight (unless they youngins come in) are talking crap to each other in a joking way to psych each other out in a tournament. they make comments like "you you farting because you are talking out of your azz" things like that. But on the weekends when the what I call "meatheads" come in...get some drinks in them and they want to fight anyone and everyone. Thoas people end up being banned from this bar.....I can't imagine them having guns too.

Here in Knoxville some bar owners are banning bringing guns into their establishments. I am very sorry but I DO NOT agree with allowing guns into bars and public places only because, today in this country we do not have sensible people and I feel it will just get out of control...

that is the very reason why they need to be there

the best con control law would be

mandatory carry

how many crimes do you think would be committed if the criminal knew tha most if not all in the place might shoot them if they commit the crime

More, actually because gun owners are not all sane to begin with. People who feel they have to have a gun to live safely have a flawed sense of reality. IMO

We have already lived the wild wild west and throughout history we have seen the craziness.

Imagine the security at the bars dilemma when a fight breaks out, do they try to control it knowing at least on of the patrons is holding or do they run and hope not too many innocent people get hurt before one of them is dead.

Craziness.
