So I'm sitting here at the local surgery center waiting for dad to come out after having bone spurs on his left shoulder scraped out.
A friends drops me a txt, I let him know what's up. He writes back saying he'll never have that problem because he'll take care of himself. He's 21. I get pissed and txt back agreeing that he probably won't because he has yet to work at anything similar to what dad has done over the course of his life and probably never will. Dads been a dairy farmer worked construction does millwright work even now at 65 and does the big turbine teardown and rebuilds all over the US. He outworks all of the 20-40 year olds even now. And that doesn't include the work at the house. I want to see some of these younger guys throw 80 lb square bales 8 high on a trailer, move 30 bags of 50lb feed. And that's the easy stuff. Lifting weights means little. I don't know any weight lifted who can turn around and still do the work. |

I can remember seeing older people with any sort of affliction and saying to myself "not me" because...........
We are young and dumb but think we know it all. It is the affliction of the young. |

The younger generation is frigging spoiled.
Dad is home now. Doc said it was worse then thought and may not do enough. Still has the other shoulder to do yet. May force him to retire early. Sigh. |

Young and ignorant. We all were once. ![]() Preach it, brother...isn't that the truth! lol, i think at that age, we were all indestructible. He's just young..he hasn't seen life yet, let alone death, or the pitfalls of this thing we call life. I do hope your dad is recovering nicely, EquusDancer |

I am sorry to hear of your fathers issues, and yes, he did and does work very hard. Physical labor is hard work, and dairy farming is a 24/7 operation!! The younger generation live in a very different world today then even 20 years ago...not all of them are spoiled...and that is what my parents, aunts and uncles...etc. said about my generation... things change, the need to do some of the brute force physical labor has been changed, some things are much easier than they used to be. Years ago, we had to physically LIFT a patient in the bed...now, there are lifts that assist nursing staff so they do not have to take that physical strain on their bodies...are they spoiled? no, they are not... I know that your friend could have been a bit more sensitive at the time with his off handed comment, but really...many people will not ever understand what it was like to work a family farm...or to actually dig a ditch... that does not make them spoiled... again, I am very sorry to hear of your fathers health issues. He really does deserve a rest!! Take care~ |

All that physical labor is what has kept him still working. Its good for ya.
I know a gentleman, was a professional dancer from Africa. He still dances in his 80's Does he still dance because he is healthy? Or is he healthy because he still dances? |

Thanks ya'll. He's woozy, but doing okay. The biggest trouble will be keeping him quiet.
Mom said that the doc said he may have to have shoulder replacement surgery in the future. Will know for sure after the second shoulder is done and this all heals. |
