I had a problem with my little danios, and it tunred out it was something called "postules".

Or, it could be the advanced stages of whats literally called "ick" its got a long name I cant pronounce.

If you goto the pet store there are many kinds of medicine you can treat the water with, one will die the water blue, one green, one yellow..

You have to make sure you dont use too much, and keep track of how much used, and change the water as directed.

Good luck.

Poor little fishies, ad you.

It happens to the best of us.

Much love.

I got lifeguard as suggested, but I'm not sure if I want to use it just yet (I'm kinda nervous about it). I did a 25% water change last night. Should I wait and see if that helps, or go ahead and use the lifeguard? I haven't noticed any change in the spot yet.

I've been using Aquasafe and EasyBalance, that's the only things I've put in the water. I had the tank set up and running for a couple months without fish, I changed the carbon filter when I added the fish about a week ago.

I just did tested the water the ammonia is still a little high (0.5), but everything else is ok.

I just got a closer look with a magnifying glass, and it looks more like a lump, than a black spot.

I would go ahead, and treat it myself.

Mind you, my knowledge comes from the pet store fish people, and literally the boxes with the info inside of the medicine.

He could have had a wierd defect when you bought him, so dont hold your breath, and panic, like I said stuff happens to fish all the time.

It could possibly be the wierd illness where his little insides start poking out of its body, and gets worse.

I dont want to scare you, but this kind of thing happens.. fish diseases are common. There are a million and one problems they can get.

When I first got fish, I was like.. cooooollll!! Then I found out they need fun things to do, water handled, buddies, girlfriends, and when you put fresh water, you have to treat it, and declorinate it, and wait before ya put him back in every time ya do. O yeah, and then theres salt, and no salt, and filtration.

Do you have a filter btw?

If not charcoal filters are really good.

I didnt know about ammonia levels, ph, bowl size, and especially not disease I learned real quick.

Just follow the directions on the box, and you can always get some nice person that works in the fish section, or a specialty fish store to teach you about possibilities or even a diagnosis from description. They may even let you take him in and look at him to see what your little guy needs.

You know whats funny?

I have only had little leopard, zebra, and yellow danios, and bottom feeders, and learned all this stuff.

Now listen. If your little playful friend dies, dont get upset, its trial and error with fishies, and like I said, he could have come to you sick.

He should have some clear eyes, and no wierdo whitey film hanging from them, or his body.

You gotta inspect your fish when you get them too to make sure their scales are uniform, nothing is hanging from them, and their fins are complete.

Also, if you call the fish store, chances are, they will probably replace him for free, if God forbid he goes to fishie heaven.

xo

I do have a carbon and bio filter, it came with the tank. I also have a bubble curtain for him to play in

It could be nothing, IDK. It could be something he's had all along. I'm not going to worry about him for a while and see what happens.

I just noticed today that the spot went away. I think it may have been a small bacterial infection that cleared up maybe. Whatever it was, I'm glad it's gone.

The temp. is 75F I did a water test today and the ph and ammonia were a bit high, so I'm doing a 25% water change now, waiting for the new water to get room temp. now. I added Aquasafe and EasyBalance to the new water.

I contacted Tetra for help, they suggested adding Lifeguard, but I'm not sure if I want to do that right now.

Would aquarium salt help?

Salt is always good in the fish tank.
Also, your temp is low, bump it up to about 79-80 degrees. You've got a tropical fish it needs warm water to remain healthy.

I have a preset heater, it's preset to about 79 . The temp. is up to 79F now. I think the temp. dropped when I did a water change. I let the new water sit for about 15 minutes before I put it in the tank. I'll have to wait a little longer next time, I guess.

How big is your tank? I'm thinking it must be small to drop the water temp 4 degrees with a 25% water change.
