From what I read today, Obama's visit went well. sure it did...he's only wavering on missle defense in Poland...and...cutting it to shreads in our defense budget...at a time when N. Korea is rampin' up it's long range capability...and...Iran continues to seek it's own nuclear program...America's missle defense technology...is the most advanced in the world...and a definite deterrent to any and all...who dare...threaten " our "...interests...it's our best trump card...and...Obamas thinking of folding his hand... |

well as a former Russian. they dont want weapons on their border. the Russians wont be bullied. i can promise you that. Having a missle defense system on Russia's border isn't a matter of the U.S. trying to bully them it's a matter of defending our allies in the area from threats the likes of N Korea. |

I watched the whole discussion on youtube (46 min), it went well, it seems like Russia will cooperate to build a missile shield, but first instead of the gun-ho Bush style version, Russia and USA will re-examine and determine, whether or not the defense system is actually capable of defending as well as the location is well suited for the place. This is a very complicated matter and even with co-op, it's one of those issues, which requires a lot of research, due military strategic; political relations and so on...Europe is not USA, we're dealing with 30+ countries with different alliances and relations, you can't just stomp all over the place carelessly and knock over fragile relationships and especially now with the economic crisis hitting hard most of Eastern Europe (as well as western) and let's not forget the past few years of severing relationships with Russia by the Bush government are still fresh wounds, it will require a lot of trust and setting aside the differences.

Russians play chess while we play checkers. Never underestimate the Russians. Look at history. They are three steps ahead. Afghanistan? They have been there, done that.

Russians play chess while we play checkers. Never underestimate the Russians. Look at history. They are three steps ahead. Afghanistan? They have been there, done that. ..and lost big time..they couldn't keep up with the Afghan insurgents (financed by USA). I know russians probably more than anyone else here, exception are the Russians themselves of course...whatever mental image you got about the Russians, it's most likely biased by the 5 decades of constant brainwashing and media-conditioning. They are just like you or me. |

As far as their leadership...Putin played Bush like a pawn.
