What team (any sport) made the biggest mistake drafting a one player
instead of another.

the portland trailblazers, 1985 draft they pick sam bowie instead of
micheal jordan

the new york jets, 1983 draft, they pick ken obrian instead of dan
marino

Greenbay... seems they always pick what they don't need!!!grumble

Sorry Rozey but I think the Packers needed the RB's they got this
year...

Granted O'Brian & Bowie were not the elite in their sport, but they were
decent players to some respect (Obviously they're barely qualified to
even wash Jordan's or Marino's Jock-Strap) But they weren't complete
Busts...

My Vote goes to Ryan Leaf: You're going to have to look long and hard to
find a complete waste of a roster spot like that Bust that was taken so
high in a draft...

I don't think you can call Carter a bust, at least not fairly. He was
hurt in the preseason (unless I'm totally wrong it was the first snap of
the first game) and was never the same player again; injuries don't make
you a bust, being healthy and just not playing well makes you a bust.
To that end let's throw out the names Tony Mandarich (2nd overall
Packers), Dan Wilkenson (1st overall Bengals), Brian Bosworth
(supplemental draft Seahawks), Akili Smith (3rd overall Bengals), Heath
Schuler (3rd overall Redskins), Lawrence Phillips (6th overall *sigh*
Rams).

This is why Ryan Leaf was the Biggest Bust of all time:

In the 1998 draft the San Diego Chargers held the third pick of the
draft, but made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to guarantee their
team would get one of the two quarterbacks (Leaf or Manning). To move up
to the second pick in the draft, the Chargers traded two first-round
picks, a second-round pick, and four-time Pro Bowler Eric Metcalf.

This trade killed the Chargers for three years: Basically until the
suckered the Falcons in a trade (that got them LT & Brees, instead of
Vick) and they suckered the Giants in a trade (that got them Shawn
Marion & Phillip Rivers instead of Eli Manning)

If we could rate stupidest coaching moves, it'd be hiring Dennis
Erickson. He f*cked us up for a good minute, but we got a great coach
now in Mike Nolan.
