Only thing I know about it is that Co2 has a strong absorption band
around 10.5 microns. That is well into the infrared zone. Light in that
wavelength is essentially heat energy. So my understanding of the theory
is that heat strikes the Co2n and the Co2 absorbs the light in the form
of heat and the light is not reflected back out into space nor does it
simply pass through the atmosphere and continue on if it does not strike
earth.

Now that is the substance of the discussion as I see it. However I
think that overlooks the fact that there are so many other wavelengths
of light. It is basically a broad spectrum of light, from ultraviolet to
infrared and beyond. Nitrogen has a strong absorption band in the blue,
somewhere around 470 nanometers or so (I'm just going from memory here),
so therefore if you displace nitrogen with Co2 then you have less
absorption in the 470 nm band. Hence you have some balancing effect.

I mean, you are either absorbing in one spectrum or another.

I am not going to be a bit surprised if someone here corrects the
fallacies here. Let's see you have a go.

Read your news...look for articles re
drought...Australia...Afrika...South America....

and the Carbon Dioxide levels form a blanket in our atmosphere, and
traps heat IN....it is not released OUT.

And Carbon Monoxide....don't forget the monoxides...plants and oceans
dont release those naturally,

as to absorpyion by trees, while you are at it...why not have a little
look see at how much forest is left GLOBALLY.

I recently heard that in fact the forest area (number of trees) had
increased substantially over the last couple decades, but that the
old-growth forests were being knocked down.

I think more trees is a good thing and may be related to weather issues
including increased carbon dioxide.

But the destruction of old-growth forests is horrible. I don't know what
could be done to stop that process.

CO2 has a specific gravity about 1.5, compared to air of 1.0. It would
tend to fall to the earth. If it is a blanket, then it should primarily
be a blanket near the surface. Water vapor is a larger component of the
greenhouse gas than CO2. More heat yields more water vapor.

Jess, I've seen you mention drought several times and I've kept quiet
about it, but I want to say something to you, just something to think
about. Fresh water, drinkable water, can be produced from sea water
somewhat inexpensively. It is not so cheap as taking water from a
stream, but it is not exorbitant either.

Two different processes are used for getting fresh water from the sea.
One is evaporation technology, the other is reverse osmosis. Evaporation
technology is essentially distillation, heat water till it evaporates,
collect the vapor. Solar power can be used for this process. Reverse
osmosis is a process by which water is forced through extremely tight
filter materials, allowing only H2O to pass.

The cost of these two processes vary according to production details,
but generally in large volume either one costs about a penny a gallon.

Governmental programs to implement these technologies are lagging need.
From an activist standpoint more should be done to encourage investment
in the infrastructure to build water plants.

At a penny per gallon farming is an expensive proposition, but with
conservation techniques in place it may prove to be better than
starvation.

If you need one for your city I'll personally be happy to build you one
as I am presently working on water plant technology. I am working with
the reverse osmosis approach. Now you know my reason for remaining quiet
about the matter initially.

There may be another reason for the increas in CO2 in the southern
oceans.

There is an active volcano in that area on the seabed. It may be
outgassing in prepration for an outburst.

ohwell there will be plenty of sand around for all the dipsshhiittss
to bury their greedy fat heads in any one who dosent think human
activity is not haveing a catastrophic effect on the health of this
planet has their heads so far up their own arses they will never see the
writing on the wall.so go right on gobbling your guts out.
