Lex,

I have a theory about this.

You are smart, articulate, accomplished and completely intimidating.

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've been told this....!

And, I have to admit, I still don't get it.

What is "intimidating" about being able to write well, to communicate well? This is what everyone says they want -- but then, when it shows up, it's suddenly "intimidating"?

And yet, I get e-mails all the time using that exact word. What am I missing here? Would I be better off to misspell everything and write like a looser with no sence of humer?

Lex, it's not writing well it's how you write and what you say that people find intimidating. You use words most people don't and would have to look up to ensure they use it correctly.

You are clear about what you don't like but make jokes about goats as opposed to stating what you do like.

Yeah, that's true. I guess I've never really properly clarified what it is I do like. But then, on another level, it's not exactly "set in stone," either. I mean, my last gf was almost the diametric opposite (in terms of physical body type) of the kind of gf I was normally attracted to. Of course, a 160 IQ and massive truckloads of artistic talent will generally outweigh everthing else -- for me, anyway.

I may have to think about this.

I wasn't speaking in terms of physical. Tell us what you are looking for in a person, not what they look like. 160 IQ could mean very smart and very boring. Truckloads of artistic talent could be a pole dancer or Van Gogh.

Women may want to approach you but are afraid after spell checking, they may have used incorrect grammar or punctuation. They may drink socially or smoke occassionally and are afraid you're not interested.

Well, smoking has never been an issue for me. I guess it should be, since it has somehow become a bigger public sin than drinking or walking naked through the subway station, but I have no problem dating a smoker.

And it's not like I expect every word in every e-mail I get to be perfect! Hell, I make typos! I am the worst typist in the world, seriously....it's just that I catch most of the errors before I post -- but they're there.

What bothers me is when it's repetitive mistakes that wouldn't be made by a third grader. That's a problem.

They want the good ones but may be intimidated to approach.smokin

Well, they shouldn't be. It's not like I'm the President of Guatemala or something. I'm just a guy who is good at a couple things, and bad at lots of others -- like most people. The only real difference is, one of the things I'm good at just happens to end up displayed on a website where people just happen to go every day (and, to a lesser extent, in books which people just happen to read).

I don't see how or why that should be considered intimidating....? It's just a thing that I do....

What exactly are you bad at? I'm not sure I've seen you make a mistake much less admit that's what it was. Yes, if women don't approach you it is there mistake, but you could be open to being more approachable.flowerforyou

I'm a keeper....but people keep wanting to keep me in a cage grumble

Well, we wouldn't need the cage if you didn't keep gnawing through the ropes.

Shy guy over here. waving Though I'm going out tonight and hopefully going to force myself into a conversation. I'll surely say something dumb, but I'll just rebound with a few big words. Just need to figure out where to go.

get her drunk, then she won't care if you sound stupid. this really works.

I could give you a list of things I'm bad at, but it would end up being longer than my profile.

A few examples: Cooking. I'm legally barred from being within 500 feet of any sort of stove or oven (with the exception of microwaves) in 22 states and Puerto Rico. Seriously, I could tell you stories. I don't even try to cook anything anymore. Not worth the ninth degree burns.

I'm not good at working on cars. The most elaborate thing I've ever done with a car is put headlights in a 1976 Buick Skyhawk. It's not just that I have no aptitude for working on cars, it's just that I find it to be about the most boring thing in the world. With the possible exceptions of golf and fishing.

I really don't understand the stock market, even after reading two books by that O'Neill guy who started the IBD. The whole thing is just too dull for me to generate any interest in.

I'm no good at basketball. Maybe because I'm 5'10" -- I don't know.

And, as for approachable -- maybe I'm just missing something, but I've never seen myself as non-approachable. There are lots of people on this site who just sent me an e-mail out of the blue one day, for whatever reason, and who didn't seem to think there was any reason not to....

Is a person really any different because he has published a book or two? Because he can put words together in a way that works well? I don't feel any differently from the way I did before the first book got published....?

People have told me, "Well, you're a celebrity on here." but being a celebrity on a dating site is sort of like being the tallest of the Teletubbies. You're still a Teletubby, regardless.

So, why haven't any of the good guys found me yet? I'm not moody, I'm a giver, I can cook (but I don't like to clean, and I can't iron), I'm humorous, I can dish it AND take it back two-fold (as long as you can take the "your mom" retort), I can clearance shop like no other, and I have a stunning personality! Where are the men who want to PURSUE me?? I hate being the hunter...I wanted to be huntED!!! Any of you other women agree with this logic? Do you always want to be the forward one? Heck, guys, if you WANT us, come GET us!!

The way I see it, if a woman truly does possess these kinds of qualities, she doesn't need to announce it to the world. It just kind of naturally, automatically eminates from her.

like a fart bigsmile

Not necesarily. Those are often forced, too.

EWWWW it is gassy in here!

I love being grammatically correct. To some extent, I so agree with you - I hate lazy scribing! :)
