one immigrant said he couldn't afford it...but said it will be fairly
simple to cross back over should he be deported... so basicly they're
laughing at any efforts we make to guard the border.

Does anybody remember the discussion with the last immigration reform
which created the amnesty program? At the time there was a much
publicized discussion about the extreme penalties for employers hiring
illegal aliens. The penalties were to be so severe that no company in
their right mind would ever hire illegals. That aspect of the law was
almost entirely ignored in the implementation. Perhaps there was no
funding for enforcement.

At my company, we do not hire illegals. Many other companies hire them
on a regular basis and they even make up a large portion of the work
force. I'm in Houston. This city is more than 30% Hispanic. The
companies who hire illegals have some unfair labor advantages over my
company because they flaunt the rules.

Many of the people who are here and working as illegal aliens are decent
hard working people. We can not hire them. I would like to see some
leveling of the playing field for employers. If there were a program
where these people could be hired legally after going through the
process to obtain some documentation it would benefit my company, and
take aware the unfair advantage given to the law breakers who now hire
the illegals.

Any discussion of making employers pay the consequences for hiring
illegals should be disregarded. It is primarily fodder for the shredder.
As soon as the issue is out of the spotlight employers will hire them
anyway. Its a matter of scruples, some have them, some don't.

-I think Maxine has the better idea, "dig a moat along the border from
the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific coast. Use the dirt to build New
Orleans above sea level, gather up all the troubling aligators around
Florida and put them in the moat'.

Seriously, does it really matter what kind of law they pass....if they
aren't gonna enforce it?

Philosopher hit the nail on the head. Punish the employers. They won't
do that though.
