Ahh this is very good information Moof... I am having some car trouble so trying to work out whether to drive or fly but it's all becoming very expensive, I really had thought the deals were better... I'm also having an issue with the moving, that is the time I'm supposed to move so not sure what's going to happen with that...

Ahh yes... the ol' "issues with the car/plane trip/apartment-movin'" scenario. They always seem to pop up at the worst possible time, eh?

But yeah- the drive to Oregon IS something to experience, if only for the novelty of seeing all those friggin' trees- you'll be driving along... your eyes all scorched from looking all that sickly brown scrub brush... until WHAM!!!... you're suddenly inundated with more trees than you know what to do with.

There was one point in the drive where I actually started to feel claustrophobic from the sheer number of trees on either side of the road at one point. There were THAT many of them.

And it gets "worse" the deeper you get into Oregon, too. Driving at night (something I had to do at one point) was especially trippy, as all you can see through your headlights are nuthin' but trees.

TREES!!!! shocked

Well leave the dog with someone close-by who ISN'T goin' to Oregon! Surely you can find someone to fit that description, right? laugh

not really, it's a lot to ask of someone.. I would probably have to kennel him which means more money, it's not cheap and if it is cheap then it's "far"...

but yeah a few things at once, not sure why things just don't seem to "flow".. Murphy's Law I guess...

Yeah. The ol' Murphy's Law rearin' its ugly head once again. It happens every time.

But yeah- driving to Oregon was a pretty neat experience. The only sucky part was the fact we had to do so for work-related reasons and NOT for pleasure or a vacation. That kind of put a binder on things.

I mean... you COULD fly out there too, but you'd miss a lot of those TREES!!! that are all over the place up there. And there are a lot of TREES!!! out there, too!

What I found about flying is that Maupin is about 2.5 hrs away from Portland and that's the closest airport so I have to rent a car, which is brings on a whole other expense... It's looking pretty dreary and very depressing at this point...

Not my news to share, I'll let her fill you in bigsmile And then we'll chat devil

If it helps any, since it's a holiday weekend, I'm thinking about taking the whole weekend off so if you do decide to fly I'd be happy to drive you and Myka from the aiport there and back and so forth if that helps cut down on the cost of having to rent a car???

The drive is pretty spectacular but it's long, I did Bakersfield to Portland in about 14 hours but with a 2 year old so until it was night and she fell asleep we made a lot of pit stops on the way. Darn palm trees anyway you know how old it gets to hear PALM TREE shouted everytime you see one???

Yeah. The drive there is pretty long, but a good portion of it has to do with trying to negotiate those Sisques at the Cali/Oregon border. That's supposed to add a couple of hours to the drive, at least.

Not only that, you'd be heading toward the other way via the 71, which is a lot faster. It'll also get you a lot closer to Maupin as well, according to all the maps I have of the area, that is.

You'd be best served by having a drivin' buddy with you, so you can switch off every couple of hours. Not only will you NOT get all burned out from driving so dern much, but you can pretty much go non-stop (other than for restroom breaks, food breaks, and refueling stops), which can cut down on time.

Had the associate I was driving to Mt. Hood with NOT got his hands all messed up from another job the night before, that's exactly what woulda happened. Instead, I ended up driving the whole way (including some navigational errors on said associate's part) there myself, which pretty much burned me out when it was over.

a 4 hr drive kills me, not sure how I'd sit through a 14 or 15 hr drive.... I'd rather fly if I can but a lot is suspended mid-air with the availability of the new apt I've been waiting for...

Wed 07/01/09 10:33 PM
Yeah. That certainly sucks. Now if there was ONLY some rich old dude with a heart condition you could bilk out of his millions... laugh

And why NOT??? laugh

But yeah- the trip out there IS pretty long. You'd think they'd hurry up and start crankin' out the teleporters like on Star Trek or something. laugh
