Ark of the Covenant will not be shown: Ethiopia priest
Tue Jun 30, 2009 3:08pm GMT

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) - The head of Ethiopia's Orthodox Church on Tuesday denied reports that he is about to unveil to the world the Ark of the Covenant that Moses is said to have stored the Ten Commandments tablets in.

Patriarch Abune Paulos said Italian media had incorrectly reported that he would place the Ark in a museum in the country's north.

Legend has it that the box-shaped Ark has been hidden from sight in Ethiopia since 642 BC.

"I am deeply disappointed that the Italian media misquoted me and disseminated false information about me unveiling the Ark of the Covenant to the world," he said at a news conference.

"It is a fabrication, disinformation."

Some Ethiopians believe that Prince Menelik I -- who is said to be the result of a union between Israel's King Solomon and the Ethiopia Queen of Sheba -- took the Ark from Jerusalem to Ethiopia while he was in power around 950 BC.

"I would like to confirm once again that the Ark of the Covenant and the sacred tablets containing the Ten Commandments that God delivered to Moses are in Ethiopia," Abune added.

Replicas of the Ark are in more than 50,000 Orthodox churches in the Horn of Africa country, the church says.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church says it keeps the Ark in a holy shrine in the north of the country. Only a small number of priests can even go near the room where it is said to be kept.

they have claimed to have for quite some time

supposedly there is one priest who has access to it and that priest has to be replaced every few years cause they keep dying of radiation poisoning

the Ethiopian church is as old as the Catholic church. They split off from the Catholics in the year 400

Many of the practices of the Ethiopian Church are old Jewish in nature. The trail of the ark is pretty well documented as it was removed and hidden. Odds are the actual relic ended up here.

oooo...maybe it's really what's left of an engine core from a crashed starship. Something like that would've been considered a holy relic from God a few thousand years ago.

Maybe its the AllSpark!
But, seriously, there are a lot of objects, rituals, and places that have odd powers and legends attached from the past. For example, there is a legend that the pyramid's stones were moved by "singing" or sound. Primitive batteries have been found in the Mid-East and tombs in Egypt that don't have soot marks from torches or candles.

That said, its just impossible to really know, which is why it takes a measure of faith to believe in these relics after all.

I agree it is mentioned two many times for it not to have been real. It would be cool if they found it last I heard they had a general idea over a large area not sure where at though.

They showed the building it was in in a documentary, and it's more like an large shed. Personally I think the whole thing is bull and has been for decades. But if it keeps the locals inline what the heck. I highly doubt considering the building it's in that it would have survived the enviroment. If it ever existed in the first place.

And even if it did exist, so what? It doesn't prove the existence of God anyway.

no I dont think it proves the existence of God

but supposedly the Ark had some kind of magical power

the speculation is that the golden angels on the cover were big positive and negative battery electrodes and could emit an electrical arc. It would at the least be proof of advanced ancient technology

The arc of the covenant was made exactly as the one in HEAVEN.

The philistines took it and put it beside thier g-d.

Everyday they had it something happened to thier g-d to where finally its head was cut off.

They had to get rid of it so they took a mule and a wagan put it in it and sent it on its way back to the Israelites.

The Israelites are 12 tribes of the sons of Jacob/Israel.

They were in charge of and only them. The Priesthood. The Levites

Then it just disappears from the scriptures.

But who sat on the Mercy seat and was coming?

Yahshua to show us mercy to all.

John makes a distinct point of seeing the Arc of the Covenant and recording it that it was in Heaven.

Where it rightfully belongs as that is where Yahshua went back to.

Yahshua very well may still sit on the Mercy seat today and since it disappeared.

All this conjecture of where the Mercy seat is after the Arc of the Covenannt was made by giving the people devine skills to do so and they got to the Promice land.

Did the Mercy seat ever leave the promice land?

If it did how long did it take for it to come back and did anyone want it after they did get it?

As quoted it will leave the peoples minds and physically.

It does not say just some of the peoples minds and will still be and some will have it physically.

Did Solomon have the right to have the Arc of the covenant sent away?

I do not believe so since he is from the tribe of Judah.
The Tribe of Levi was in charge of it.
John vision tells us where it went. Thier was one in Heaven and then one on earth.

Yahshua came to the earth for mercy to all.

I believe it is in Heaven.

Shalom...Miles

Okay I found the post, posted above.

What does the ark look like? If there are many replicas why haven't I seen any pictures of it? (Except in the Raiders of the lost Ark, that's the only time I've seen what it might look like.)
