fly, but need to anyway, how do you get through it? I realize there will likely be a lot of alcohol answers!

I HATE flying. I really REALLY do.
So here's what I do when I simply have to go flyin'- I get a window seat, preferably one that will give you an unobstructed view of the outside world (no wing, no engines, etc.). Then look out the window from take off to landing. |

Yes, I am facing this myself very soon... and no, I do not want to consume alcohol. Would like to be sober when I finally get to get off the plane? Flight is one of the greatest things man has achieved, from the start watching a bird take its last leap into the air. Flight truly is magnificent, look at it as art...afterall the pilots view it the same way. There is beauty in flight not many see, the ability to see the clouds from the top, floating above the world and trying to guess what state/continent you are over. Make a game out of it and have fun with it.

You are right Fear. BUT...it really isn't the flying part I hate. It's the fear of falling Out of the sky that gets me!

there's the more people die in car accidents than air planes story... but that never did much for me either... an mp3 player and a window seat always helped me.

I'd take the cute lil pillow from overhead & drop it down by my feet.Take my shoes off & make fists w/ my toes on the pillow.But hey! maybe I've seen to many movies.If U get any strange looks give them the lifted eyebrow & tell them zip it.

Make a game out of it and have fun with it. Well I think you have a good point...it could be interesting and I could not drive to where I am going in 7 hrs. However it would sit better on my thoughts if the Air France incident hadn't occurred so recently. But I refuse to let my fear keep me from where I want to go either.

It's the other things like lightning, mechanical problems, terrorists, birds, anything that could affect the plane landing safely. Other than that, flying is a piece of cake! |

I know what you mean City. I flew to Hawaii not long after TWA 800 and that really played with my mind. Something about all of that water. Not that that makes a bit of difference.

there's the more people die in car accidents than air planes story... I've heard this before.... But, it's the thought of hundreds of people dying at once, me being one of them, that creeps me out. The tragedy of watching others die and scream, etc. I try not to think about it all and do more praying when I fly. I like the window seat and try to do crosswords and read. And hope for no turbulence to remind me how fragile the situation really is. |

As we pull back from the gate I am repenting of every sin and ill thought I've ever had! Praying for every bolt, every maintenance worker that touched this plane, the pilot, that there is no bomb, bla bla bla I always walk on the plane and generally the cockpit door is open and I always ask them if they all had a good nights sleep and no fights with their wives this morning!
