I flew 4 days after the 9/11 incident.. I look at it this way.. when my time comes, it comes.. whether I am in the air or crossing the street...and my odds are better in the air.. I love to fly!

I know what you mean City. I flew to Hawaii not long after TWA 800 and that really played with my mind. Something about all of that water. Not that that makes a bit of difference.

Agree... Land, Water, whatever doesn't seem to make much difference really...it is so far down. Impact pretty much the same. Yes, I am hearing the argument that more people die in auto accidents then planes, however not many auto accidents wipe out the lives of over 200 people all at one moment. Besides when I drive, I feel like I am in more control...

I flew about a week or so after Sept 11th. I had to keep telling myself that the verse in II Timothy that says, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. "

This is an extremely common fear.
Many people get a small prescription of a tranquilizer from their
doctor to help them with flying, even some people who travel for
a living and fly frequently get scripts for Valium or Xanax to
take for their flights.

Guess I can't talk, have never been on a plane myself, will have to some day, have someone in Florida telling me I have to come visit her (Pammy). laugh laugh Yikes!!!!

Well, I think the thing of it is, it's generally so horrific, to think about those last seconds or minutes like the Buffalo crash or this Air France one. Not that losing one person to cancer or a car accident isn't horrific. To any family, one loss is one too many. But these kinds of things are so so bad. I would mainly hate it for my loved ones.

I fly every month, pretty much. I still dislike it.

Alchohol does help, but normally i dont bother if its just a short flight.

I have no tricks, but if you gotta fly somewhere you just have to do it, dont think about it and just do it.

You are right Fear. BUT...it really isn't the flying part I hate. It's the fear of falling Out of the sky that gets me!

That only happens in movies.laugh
Tell that to those people at the bottom of the ocean

Wow. I thought you'd not mind it since you've flown over here a few times. I can see that London to Edinburgh is not a long flight but you have flown over the Atlantic.

I haven't flown since like 1982 or something...when one of the Priewe brothers took me up in one of their crop dusters and decided to demonstrate his best dusting techniques. Besides that, I knew that it was a matter of time before someone took one of those fancy tin cans and turned it into a weapon. Humanity did not prove me wrong.

Now...by the time I drive to the airport, wait at the airport, fly on the plane, wait at the airport to retrieve my luggage and drive to my destination...I could have driven, so why not drive and enjoy the scenery along the way?

For long haul flights, alchohol is definately the answer! (for me anyway)

 Well fortunately I don't have to fly over an ocean. I might need to bounce off of a few corn fields or pastures.

I thought once about becoming a flight attendant. I could earn Delta freq flyer miles and see some interesting places. Mainly to face my fears. Think that would work??!!
