say it ain't so Joe... ...first he closes Gitmo...and now this...can you spell ACLU...or...Amnesty International...or better yet...Acorn...
FBI Issues Miranda Rights to Foreign Fighters By Shannon Bell According to a top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, President Obama and his administration have ordered FBI agents to read terror suspects their Miranda rights; even though they have been captured on foreign soil and are not U.S. citizens officially protected by the Miranda vs. Arizona decision over 40 years ago. Obama allows Terrorists Miranda rights Michigan congressman Mike Rogers, met recently with military, intelligence, and law-enforcement officials on a fact finding trip to Afghanistan. What he found was deeply troubling. The Obama Justice Department has quietly ordered the FBI to issue Miranda rights to foreign fighters captured on the field of battle. Congressman Rogers, who himself is a former FBI agent and member of the military, says: “I was a little surprised to find it taking place when I showed up because we hadn’t been briefed on it, I didn’t know about it. We’re still trying to get to the bottom of it, but it is clearly a part of this new global justice initiative.” A Los Angeles Times story in May says that the FBI is going to have a larger role in what Obama calls the “global justice” initiative; taking more of a prominent part in apprehending and questioning suspected terrorists. One can only speculate why the Obama administration has chosen to proceed with the “former war on terror” in this manner. My guess is that they want cover when they bring detainees to the U.S. for trial; there is no other reason to Mirandize a terror suspect. Republicans and anybody with half a brain knows that this is a bad idea. The first thing a suspect is told when they are given their Miranda rights, is that they have the right to “remain silent”. What would be the point of keeping a bunch of suspected terrorists, if we were not going to glean information from them? Ranking Republican Pete Hoekstra says: “It would seem the last thing we want is Khalid Sheikh Mohammed or any other al-Qaeda terrorist to remain silent. Our focus should be on preventing the next attack, not giving radical jihadists a new tactic to resist interrogation–lawyering up.” Rogers also warns of the fact that organizations like the International Red Cross are already telling detainees to “lawyer up”. And he adds that issuing Miranda rights along with International organizations already advising them in this way will only lead to confusion between the FBI, CIA, and the military. Didn’t we already have an issue with confusion between the FBI, CIA, military, and other intelligence agencies in the past? Oh, I forgot; that’s what Barack Obama seems to want. The only thing allowing terrorists to have Miranda rights read to them will do is cause confusion. |

Republican critics are howling that the Obama administration should not have brought a terror suspect from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to the United States for trial. Ahmed Ghailani is charged with helping to bomb U.S. embassies in Tanzania and Kenya in 1998. The bombings killed 224 people, including 12 Americans.
Why not bring Ghailani to America? He’s charged with killing Americans. And he was indicted in New York before the 9/11 attacks. U.S. courts successfully have handled terror trials before, such as the cases arising from the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. Critics of the administration seem to be relying on fear. They say terrorists could be released onto American streets if they are acquitted. That’s a possibility because some detainees were captured under conditions that make gathering evidence difficult. And there’s the general threat of a revenge attack or hostage-taking if a trial takes place in a U.S. city. But are they really suggesting that Americans should give in to fear? Are they suggesting that Osama bin Laden should not be tried in America if he ever were caught? What do you think? Take our poll above. http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/opinionzone/2009/06/10/guantanamo-terror-suspects/ |

It does sound a bit more human to me. And yes, we should be ttying these terror suspects and getting them procecuted as soon as possible. If they cannot be charged they ned to be released unless they are POW which is a different situation. |

I think the big fooferaw is over the transition from them being military prisoners ("enemy combatants") to being criminal prisoners
AND immigration law says that no person with ties to terrorist groups can be allowed into the country. The Attorney General is saying that immigration law is priority in these cases AND if they are found not guilty they can't be released in America. And their home countries are refusing to tske them back |

Thanks, being humane but strong is still a possibility in all situations. Miranda rights do not mean they are getting special treatment. Our worse criminals here in the states, who will kill and in some cases do hate America get Miranda rights too. Our philosphy on treatment of terrorists needs to be revamped because we cannot go on treating people regardless to their views as less than human. If they are chargable with a crime, we need to charge them, prosecute them and put them away. We are Americans, not animals. |

captured on foreign soil and are not U.S. citizens officially protected by the Miranda vs. Arizona decision over 40 years ago. and the fact that they were un-uniformed fighters of a non govt organization expempts them from the Geneva Convention (supposedly) |

yeah, last I heard was that Obama was considering moving them to the Bagram air base (in Iraq)

I think they should be read their rights. I don't think it necessarily has to be the Miranda rights. But there needs to be a standard universal code used for captured prisoners. (I know it would be nearly impossible to have everyone agree) But we are still human beings even in war!

let's see what Patton thinks...lol
Now, I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. Men, all this stuff you’ve heard about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of horse dung. Americans traditionally love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle. When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, the big league ball player, the toughest boxer. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn’t give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That’s why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans. Now, an Army is a team. It lives, eats, sleeps, fights as a team. This individuality stuff is a bunch of crap. The bilious bastards who wrote that stuff about individuality for the Saturday Evening Post don’t know anything more about real battle than they do about fornicating. We have the finest food and equipment, the best spirit and the best men in the world. You know, by God I actually pity those poor bastards we’re going up against. By God, I do. We’re not just going to shoot the bastards, we’re going to cut out their living guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We’re going to murder those lousy Hun bastards by the bushel. Now, some of you boys, I know, are wondering whether or not you'll chicken out under fire. Don't worry about it. I can assure you that you will all do your duty. The Nazis are the enemy. Wade into them. Spill their blood. Shoot them in the belly. When you put your hand into a bunch of goo that a moment before was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do. Now there’s another thing I want you to remember. I don’t want to get any messages saying that we are holding our position. We’re not holding anything. Let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly and we’re not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time and we're gonna go through him like crap through a goose. There’s one thing that you men will be able to say when you get back home. And you may thank God for it. Thirty years from now when you’re sitting around your fireside with your grandson on your knee and he asks you what did you do in the great World War II, you won’t have to say, "Well, I shoveled **** in Louisiana." Alright now, you sons-of-*****es, you know how I feel. Oh, and I will be proud to lead you wonderful guys into battle – anytime, anywhere. That’s all. |

American Convicted felons lose their right to vote and to "carry". Yet, foreign terrorists get to be treated as Americans????
|
|
|
|
We don't have rights in other countries, we should NOT extend our rights to foreign enemy combatants.
How about Americans in Mexico, what about our rights there? Were not Mexican so we have NO rights there. Punk ass Liberals... It is one thing to be an enlightened nation and it is another to be extending our rights to others BUT there needs to be reciprocation for it to be just, right, and honorable. Without reciprocation we are just acting like a bunch of elitist pansies. Sometimes you have to have an iron fist even if it holds the olive branch. Peach through superior firepower and the will to use it! |
