Topic: Have you seen this warning yet? | |
---|---|
The following was sent to me as a "virus warning", and I followed the link to Snopes...and sure-nuff...it appears to be true. I thought I would pass the warning along to those here as well.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE! The newest virus circulating is the UPS/Fed Ex Delivery Failure. You will receive an email from UPS/Fed Ex Service along with a packet number.. It will say that they were unable to deliver a package sent to you on such-and-such a date. It then asks you to print out the invoice copy attached. DON'T TRY TO PRINT THIS. IT LAUNCHES THE VIRUS! Pass this warning on to all your PC operators at work and home. This virus has caused Millions of dollars in damage in the past few days. Snopes confirms that it is real. http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/ups.asp |

Snopes confirms this as real, although listed as a virus. According to McAfee, this is indeed real, but a low risk Trojan. |

Yeah from July 2008. And recently, from DHL.

This is one of those use your brain things. Check the originating email address to see if it indeed came from UPS, Fedex or DHL they all have their own domains and emails originating from them will be in the form of @ups.com, @dhl.com, or @fedex.com. Anyone who has used their services knows that they do not send you files, if there is a problem they will advise you contact customer service or to check your account. Never open any email attachment you are not expecting and always pay attention to file extensions!
If you have a good A/V scanner it should pick this up though. |

Yeah, I have seen this. DOne by the same ones that came out with the fake MS antivirus program. Guess they decided on a different approach. However I would like to think that most of us would remember if we sent something by UPS or FedEx. Once again, I think only a true idiot would actually open it.....but I have been wrong before!
