My dad constantly says that, I chalk it up as a dumb bit of logic on his part. I always comment that some of the best leaders led by example, from Julius Ceaser all the way too General Robert E. Lee.

Doesn't make sense, what these humans chalk up as logical...just doesn't make sense at all...

Well, that could be something like smoking for instance. You wouldn't want to encourage a teen to do it even if you did because of the addictive nature and dangers etc. So that could be an example of do as I say not as I do.

I think he meant something like he made mistakes so you don't have to, or something along those lines.

Yes, the best leaders lead by example though.

Yet even then you can still lead by example and quit smoking. I personally think he just doesn't have the personal drive to change his life in order to be a better example. Think if Julius Ceaser were to say "do as I say, not as I do"...the world would be in a lot different shape if the same were said by General Robert E. Lee or Christopher Columbus.

That was a mantra in my house growing up and it's totally BS & I despise that mentality! I refused to use that with my own kids...model the behavior you want or be a horrible hypocrite! frown
