Keep active on dating sites and tell him you are taking a job over a 100 miles away. That's what my ex did. No, wait, that sucks.

Just be honest. After a year it is going to hurt no matter what you do. Give him a chance to find someone else and move on.

If you want to make the break up eaiser on him, hook him up with another girl ......at least he'll have something to look forward to.

IMO...the reasons she has stayed with him this long is not a good reason. she owes it to him to be honest to his face

There are only two options here as far as I can tell. Now call me crazy or tell me to step away from the bong but heres your choices.

1. Tell him you don't feel the same about him, he feels more like a brother to you.
2. A swift kick in the "junk" usually settles things for you both quite efficiently.
