Is "Walther Memorial Hospital" in South Elgin still around? That's where I was shat out upon this world, and I heard somewhere that it burned down some years ago. In fact, I hear that the whole town has kind of turned into a warzone as of late!

The last time I went there (around six or eight years ago), I tried to get my uncle (who lived in nearby Hampshire) to drive me out there one night.

His exact reply was, "You F#@KING kidding me??? Do you KNOW how F@#King bad that part of town is??? It's a F@#KING WARZONE OUT THERE!!!". In fact, I believe it was he who told me the hospital that I was shat out in burned down. It wouldn't be the first time, either.

The FUNNY bit was that -despite his outright refusing up and down to take me- I got him to drive me out there for old time's sake. Lemme say that I've NEVER seen him drive as fast as he did blasting through South Elgin. And he was cursing and letting loose with the foul language the whole time, too.

He ALSO regaled me on how the city governent (in an effort to make the failed 'berg more "socially-acceptable") concreted-in the city square, trying to make a plaza out of it, much like they did to Fremont Street in Las Vegas.

They spent something on the order of five million bucks to do it (not counting the obligatory cost overruns and overall graft and corruption that Chicago politics is known for), and found that all they did was make it easier for the thugs and gang bangers to commit crimes in, while also making it more difficult for the local cops to do THEIR job.

So they wasted ANOTHER five million (again not counting the cost overruns and so on and so forth) to have it all chiseled out! And this was only a couple of years afterward, too!

Yeah. Teh uncle was literally driftin' through those turns, too. He didn't wanna stop for ANYTHING!

We DID stop off at a bar for some beers afterwards, though. Not in South Elgin, though- that all happened back in Hampshire.

Oddly enough, teh uncle has since moved to Tennessee, where his property is dead-set in between the Mandrell Sisters and Reba McIntyre. I wouldn't be surprised if he did that just to keep from driving me to South Elgin again.
