EMTs are a special breed, as are CNAs and caregivers. You have to have the stomach for it, dealing with the terminally ill and bed bound. I cared for my dad for over a year before he went to the nursing home, I couldn't do the CNA or caregiving, caring for my dad was almost too much to handle for me. I have always been interested in EMT work though. I am too old now to chase ambulances though. I guess I will just type the reports. ohwell

That's the truth. The rents around here are higher than what welfare allows a month. I would lose my house for sure if I didn't work. Some states have a much lower cost of living, but not this one.

The medical field is were all the jobs are now. People train for certain jobs even as a stop-gap. If you find another field later and something happens, like lay-offs you can always return to medical.

That is true, I work at the local hospital. There are lots of different departments, housekeeping, dietary, maintenance, plus the CNA's and nurses, etc. They own clinics and always need receptionists and medical assistants too, so there is usually work available.

I am a nurse and do not view my job as some crappy manual-labor job!!It may be a hard job but it has it rewards.
