Topic: The Quatrains of Nostradamus | |
---|---|
The man who saw tomorrow, but do we understand? I have spent a great deal of time researching these quatrains. Some of them are uncannily correct, some..still a mystery..join me won't you? as we delve into this mystical, yet interesting and intriguing journey in the search for truth.
I am relying on your eyes and ears, your thoughts and research, as we discover, or attempt to discover, the meanings of the quatrains. I will open this thread, with this link. Now..we can't just rely on videos..but this is just a taste, to get the interest up, and get some really positive input. This video, is a good place to begin, but after wards, i would like to go back to Century 1, Quatrain one, and i do hope some of you will find this fascinating. Here is the link to the first video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SSJD7IAz2M I purposely posted that link as "non clickable" for those who do not have multi tab browsing. this link goes directly to the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SSJD7IAz2M I will warn, the end of this video is quite disturbing, (even in fiction, if it were). Thanks for your time in reading, Mark |

Wow. That was an old video! Kind of missed the date.
You're right, the end was quite disturbing! It's supposed to show New York getting hit by a nuke but, I recognized many of the buildings from Phoenix, Arizona?? Must have taken some clips from a "Fire in the Sky"! |

lol, i'm not sure where the videos were made. It is an interesting subject though. There is another series of topics hosted by Orson Welles, which are pretty good..he's an awesome narrator of such things. the first of his vids is here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4ccoU7OCcQ&feature=related i think there are ten in all..interesting stuff!

If I want to give the same kind of illustrative general predictions then I could also spit out hundreds of prophecies that could be interpreted in a thousand different ways that would then of course come true . . .
|
|
|
|
Perhaps, however, Nostradamus made over a thousand predictions. According to experts, over half have come to pass. I feel, that in itself, is worthy of discussion. |

I've watched a few shows on Nostradamus. Definitely some stuff there that makes you think. However, to win me over I want to somebody to tell me something that he predicted THAT HASN'T HAPPENED YET. As far as I know, all his "predictions" have been somebody's interpretation of a past event.

What made the guy famous was the "real time" predictions of the death of his king. The detail was so precise it is really mind boggling. Yes, that would be the 35th quatrain of the first century, where he predicts the death of the King. "The young lion will overcome the old one. On the battlefield in single combat, in a cage of gold his eyes will be put out. Two wounds in one, then to die a cruel death." The king, after being warned, entered a jousting match, and through his golden helmet, the jousting pole splintered and pierced his eyes. He died as a result. |

Nostradamus didn't hit a whole lot of predictions on the head, the king one is the only one I can recall that was spot on...the rest of them were tied in by a very thin thread of truth and blew up into full blown predictions that he made...regardless of them being several yards of yarn off.

If the guy was so great why were his predictions so vague? If he was predicting the death of the king why not say the king will die on this day in this manner? How do we know he was not actually talking about lions and was just as surprised as everyone else when they claimed he prophesied it? Why do prophets only speak in cryptic generalities and metaphors?

In his time, Thomas, that was considered witchcraft. He made all of his predictions in his study, late at night. The very first quatrain of the first century...
"Sitting alone at night in secret study; it is placed on the brass tripod. A slight flame comes out of the emptiness and makes successful that which should not be believed in vain." What he describes here, is the brass tripod, a brass bowl suspended, filled with water. This is what as known as scrying. Focusing on an object..such as an orb, or crystal ball..or in the case of Nostradamus, a suspended bowl of water. The second quatrain of the first century... " The wand in the hand is placed in the middle of the tripod's legs. With water he sprinkles both the hem of his garment and his foot. A voice, fear: he trembles in his robes. Divine splendor; the God sits nearby." |

I am not clear about the third quatrain of the first century. "When the litters are overturned by the whirlwind and faces are covered by cloaks, the new republic will be troubled by its people. At this time the reds and the whites will rule wrongly." If anyone can find a solid answer to this one, it would be much appreciated. The quatrains are not uniform, meaning even though listed as centuries, it affords no particular time line.. |

Like Mark said, because of witchcraft. He walked a very fine line. If he had said, "I had a vision of the king being killed by a broken lance in a practice match and two splinters entered the eye holes of the helmet and caused the king to die slowly and painfully." and it happened, which it did, he would have been burned at the stake the next day. |

the English translations were usually of poor quality, seemed to display little or no knowledge of 16th century French, were tendentious and, at worst, were sometimes twisted to fit the events to which they were supposed to refer (or vice versa). None of them, certainly, were based on the original editions: Roberts had based himself on that of 1672, Cheetham and Hogue on the posthumous edition of 1568. Even the relatively respectable Leoni accepted on his page 115 that he had never seen an original edition, and on earlier pages indicated that much of his biographical material was unsourced. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nostradamus |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nostradamus According to my research, the date is wrong. The first edition appeared in 1555. One year prior to the death of Nostradamus. The second in 1558. According to history, King Henri summoned Nostradamus, asking for an explanation. Nostradamus explained, he wrote only what he saw. This may also be from an almanac written by Nostradamus, in the year 1550, when he was 46 years old. Either way, assuming the year was 1555, it would have been four years, before the death of King Henri II, Blinded, june 30 1559. He died 10 days later, on the 10th of July 1559. |

It is something I have always fascinated myself with. If a man or woman can actually predict the future?
Something that most people don't believe, yet if you think about it, we are a long ways in knowing for sure. I know governments do such studies to see if they can get people to spy on countries and activities without sending actual spies to the country. Not that they already do this today, but I see they spend alot money trying a different approach. It is like a telepathetic ability they want to research on and see if possible. Unfortunately I don't have links to it, but I have been told about it from friends. It sometimes makes you wonder if our tax money is really going into the right programs Nevertheless, Nostradamus does scare people when his predictions of how the world will be on fire after New York gets hit. I hope it is not the case and that 9/11 and how dreadful that was doesn't worsen in the future for the people of this country and the sake of the world. I must say that what I do find amazing is that Nostradamus at the time had to create a certain self invented language that would later or can be later translated for us to read. He had to do this for the threat of religious persection at the time. Freedom of speech in those times weren't as free as we have it today. and let me stop here for Nostradamus surely is a subject one can talk about all day leading or adding to more such questions like tarot card readings, laws of attraction, crystal ball readings, witchcraft, or psyhic abilites to see ghosts, and so forth. Thankyou for letting me share my opinions on this. |

The quatrains are not uniform, meaning even though listed as centuries, it affords no particular time line.. Ponder this translation "When the litters(offspring) are overturned by the whirlwind(confusion) and faces-(reputations) are covered by cloaks-(shield,disguise) the new republic-(soviet) will be troubled-(diturbed) by its people. At this time the reds-(radical, revolutionary) and the whites-(purist) will rule wrongly-(paper,pencil,injustice,oppession,corruption) All definitions taken from Roget's College Thesaurus. Obviosly this is a shot in the dark but plugin the words you believe are pertinant and see what you come up with. |
