Ive heard about this and its very real. It happens to people very often if they move from one climate to another or to a place with a long dark winter that they are not used to. Basically you just need to use your light therapy and also get some form of exercise in the winter when its dark like a treadmill. Get yourself very tired so you sleep well at night. Humans are effected by light just like all animals. Make sure you are getting enough Vitamin D in your diet also.

I have been thinking that I might have SAD. I really hate winters in Connecticut. The older I get the more I want to move to a more temperate climate. Being cooped up in the house for half the year is just not my thing.

I've lived in Michigan my entire life, so it didn't happen because I moved. I just grew up in the climate I've always known. And I cannot get any form of exercise in winter because the only kind of exercise I can get is walking because of my knee problems and I get asthma if I'm outside in the winter. Exercise does nothing for me anyway. It doesn't give me a high or anything and I've hated it my whole life. It just happens that I can't do it now. I sleep constantly because I have so many things wrong with me. Yes, I should use my light box more often. It makes me sleepy, though. You're supposed to use it in the early morning to start your day, but it makes me want to go right back to sleep. laugh

I know how that feels. I wonder if I should move to a warmer climate someday, but all of my family is around here and I like Michigan. True it's unpredictable, but we are surrounded by the great lakes so we are protected when it comes to the severe storms like hurricanes, severe tornadoes, earthquakes, or volcanoes. We get lightning/thunder storms and small tornadoes and blizzards but nothing severe like other states get. I do like Michigan and I don't want to leave. The only reason I would leave would be to get a job or for my SAD and it would definitely be to a warmer place. shades

A treadmill can be used inside. If that's boring, watch TV while you're doing it.

Exercise does do something for you!! It increases endorphins, controls weight, strengthens muscles and bones, lowers the heart rate, helps with cholesterol and blood pressure, increases endurance, and more.

I can't use a treadmill because of my knees. Like I said before, the only exercise I can physically do is walking because of my knees. It may be healthy but even when I used to do it it didn't give me a high or anything or make me feel healthier. I always hated it. I was born to be overweight and then you add in my knee problems and I'm just plain doomed. frustrated
