I was raised with a sort of nebulous version of that scenario as being the "norm."

But I never really accepted it once I got old enough to have any idea of what was actually going on. What was presented to me as being an almost "universal expectation" was something I found abhorrent and suffocating.

Because, in the end, I have no more desire to be a slave to biology and tradition than I have to being turned into a domesticated animal. Which, in fact, as it turns out, are precisely the same thing....
