Topic: UNWED MOTHERS - POLL

There's a great movie called The Bad Seed (1956) that explores the whole nature versus nurture issue.

Yes, it is fiction but though provoking fiction.

As for this unwed mothers business. I see more and more people who are in committed relationships, even with children, who choose not to marry. I am not sure the numbers accurately reflect what is going on in society.

There is an unwed mother in my family.

My 29 year old daughter is an unwed mother who's child was born in December. Because her father was working on the road I was the one who cut the cord when she was born. My daughter and the baby's father live together and mutually support Maya in all aspects of her life.

I agree...being a single parent doesn't make one incompetent

Here's the thing about life.

Even for the best prepared it is unsure. There are no guarantees.

Each of us can only do our best with what we have and try to build on it.

To assume anything solely from the number of unwed mothers is silly. There are simply too many other factors at play here.

With a %60 divorce rate why would the numbers of unwed mothers surprise anyone. My daughter was not born in wedlock ( atleast not mine but thats a whole other ball of wax ) and she turned out just fine...

i think it really sucks bc i am 35, divorced, no kids of my own. i'm an only child too so the family name dies with me. i already raised someone elses kids, not going through that again! want to start my own family soon before time runs out but there is absolutely nothing to choose from, ok there is but it's like 1 page to 10 on every dating site i see. those are terrible odds and this is a real dilema for guys like me.

Do you think that's going to change anything? Woman have access to birth control and??????? Do you think men are more responsible than woman? I mean there is condoms which in today's world unless your in a monogamous relationship (AND BETTER BE DAM SURE IT IS) is a life saving precaution!!!!!

I think it would be nice if we started realizing we live in 2009. There are all kinds of families now. Single women, married straight couples, gay couples with kids, single men raising kids. Any number of combinations can raises great kids and do.

I know many people would like to see the traditional style be the only one but that hasn't been what has existed for at least 30 years.

Balance for a child doesn't mean they have to have both a mother and father, My father didn't teach me anything about controlling anger, or for that matter self confidence. I got both from my Mother.

I have known several women that have brought up both boys and girls who are self reliant and well balanced adults today. What is between ones legs doesn't determine how well children are brought up. I also know two fathers that brought up 4 boys and 3 girls, all but one are in college today and are wonderful human beings.

We all know what children need, it doesn't always come from the combination of the traditional. It would be nice if schools taught boys and girls how to get along, and how to respect eachother, and just how difficult it can be to raise children, so teach them respect and to wait to know an individual before marrying them. However, some will choose to have children even as adults, as single parents. I see nothing wrong with that if you have what's required financially and socially to bring them up.

temp....condoms aren't 100% either.
Either are the pills or most forms of birth control....I think the pregnancy rate for condoms failing is a very small percentage of the pregnacies...

Thats what kills me when people say woman use abortion as a form of birth control!!!! Do the numbers, there are alot of "Accidents" even while using protection... Again I might be pro choice but Im personally against abortion!!!

I don't agree with abortion for birth control...it's not an easy way of doing it

but I do think condoms, pill, anything is better than nothing....but there is only 1 thing 100% proven...but that won't happen with a lot of people ohwell
