you let your guard down for once, and let someone get to know you? Would it turn out well or end horribly? Why do you think some of us have walls up in the first place?

She'd have to be a DAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMNNNNNN special lady that had the ability to break through that wall. Someone with enough courage to see me for who I am and what I've been through (in past relationships), someone who can see that I'm really not the asshole that I portray myself to be, and I can be very good to her and FOR her.
To the woman that's willing to take that chance and get to know ME, that's who I would lower the shields for. |

Okay so the question remains...WHY? From the sounds of things it must be due to past experience, past pains?

you let your guard down for once, and let someone get to know you? Would it turn out well or end horribly? Why do you think some of us have walls up in the first place? It makes us vulnerable to being hurt. If we have them up it is a protection mechanism. |

Have had it turn out well, and have had it turn out horribly. I try not to let the past dictate my future, and also try to avoid judging people by the actions of the "bad" ones I have encountered. I have some walls, but I don't want to be sitting on my porch when I'm 80 wondering "what if". So, I make the leap and hope like heck it works. If not, I heal fast ;)

Bingo ladywolf! Don't we have to TRY to keep the past from haunting us today and in the future?

you let your guard down for once, and let someone get to know you? Would it turn out well or end horribly? Why do you think some of us have walls up in the first place? I have to be very careful because over time the walls I have built up are paper thin! Won't take much to bring them down! And you are right Auburn, they are due to past pains! |

I think I'll keep my wall until I meet a mason good enough to take it down without a wrecking ball...

Giggle Girl and Kathy, I see what you mean. The past pains cause fear of that sort of thing again, so we build walls.
And Mr Music, step closer so I can see you better. |

I think letting your guard down - becoming vulnerable to another - is imperative to loving, and being loved, fully and without restriction.
How does one expect to receive trust if they are unable to give it? |

Ive lost every thing ive owned 2 times. Ive been taken my an ex b/f for over $10,000... and the rest can go unsaid... i just do better by myself.. |
