Same test Atlantis!
The PISA test, given every three years, measures the ability of 15-year-olds to apply math and science knowledge in real-life contexts. About 400,000 students, including 5,600 in the United States, took the 2006 exam. The scores from the 2006 Program for International Student Assessment showed that U.S. 15-year-olds trailed their peers from many industrialized countries. The average science score of U.S. students lagged behind those in 16 of 30 countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, a Paris-based group that represents the world's richest countries. That should have had us listed at 17 TH. What? The U.S. students were further behind in math, trailing counterparts in 23 countries. 24TH? There is also a reading portion, but results for U.S. students were thrown out because the tests were printed incorrectly. The reading test was thrown out due to misprints???? Nice! Accurate and standardized? Good question. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/04/AR2007120400730.html |

There are those who want to learn and get support from home and those who have no interest in seeking a higher education. The education system in the US is a good one. The education a student takes home is entirely up to that student. Why do you want to force it? Parents need to ensure their children take their education serious. We dont need to dismantle and reconstruct the entire system. The problem does not lie with the system! |

He just wanted out and never wanted to go to college. He's satisfied with a high school diploma and working at a factory. |

I dunno..maybe a little 'off-topic' but I have to brag...
My 3rd grader recently took the Iowa state reading test and it shows that he reads at a 9th grade level!! Now does this tell me that he is exceptionally gifted? Or is it saying over all our high school students really read at inferior levels? Eithor way...I am super proud of him!! |

Yes. I am simply agreeing to confirm the observed reality. There is a major exception though: Social sciences. I think one could be better off by just keeping his high school education, rather than being brainwashed in a SS major. What's wrong with social sciences!?! I am not brainwashed! You look at things from all perspectives and make a decision. |

it takes all kinds of people to keep the world turnin....I have seen people look down on plumbers, garbage men, construction workers...but without these people and others like them...those people would have to get their hands dirty and do it themselves.

But is the school going to let him read at the 9th grade level? Out in California, I was in 3rd, reading at the 6th, reading the books, taking the tests, fasttracking through, moved back to Texas and they wouldn't let me continue to do it. |
