That is soooooo great, it took me a year to come to the point I felt I wanted another pup and not judge her on Simba, and I am so glad I did, I have had a dog all my life and missed the companionship!! I am sure it will be the same for you!!

A few months ago, I had written a small bit, in regards to my Quaker Parrot, Pip. He was such a wonderful little guy. He was loving, funny, active and such a joy. My friends here were always amused to hear of some of the cute things that he would say and do. This morning, I let Pip out of his cage, he told me "Good Morning!" and gave me a kiss...three hours later, he was lying in his food bowl, barely breathing. We called the only "bird vet" we have in town and she told us what was wrong with Pip. She said we needed to get him into a vet within the hour and if we hurried, he could be saved. She then told us that we would have to take Pip to Indy, 50 miles away, because it was Friday and she wanted to leave early. Within the hour...Pip was gone. I am trying to deal with the loss of my companion, my buddy, my kid...and at the same time, I am furious....this vet, who knew exactly what was wrong....could not give us ten minutes to run to her office and get the medicine that Pip needed. I can never bring my buddy back and it is a loss that I will never forget about. I want to thank all of you for listening to my little stories of Pip's antics and to also remind all of you that if you have an animal, please make sure that there is medical care provided for them in your area that you can truly count on......Kim Also, a special thanks to my dear friend Puffins, for calling me and allowing me to cry and for all of the comfort she has given me.  I am sorry to hear of your loss. A pet sure can become a very special part of the family and feel like a child. My sister lost her cat last week as well, she called me in tears. That vet really needs a reality check, my sisters vet did the same thing. They knew the cat was old and sick and they called my sister to tell her they overbooked the appts and she had to bring her that evening instead of the 10am appt she had. If they had let her keep her 10am appt she would probably still be here, but her cat passed at 11am that morning. She called the vet and they were just speechless. Awe...sure sounds like your bird was a big part of your life. Hugs to you.

Cutiepie and NJMom...thank you for your comments...and I found out today...the mother of the girl that gave Pip to me, is so brokenhearted, she wants to get me a new baby....so sweet of her, she is already shopping. It won't be the same as my Pip, but a new companion is welcome, and much needed at this point in my life.

Your sweet Pip can never be replaced, but sometimes having a new pet helps a little to fill that void.

How long do they typically live? |
