I found this OPINION, which I find highly plausible.

Im interested and open to all differing opinions on how the controversy unfolded.

Planned or coincidental?

Steve Lunetta: Shame on Miss USA pageant

I don't watch beauty pageants. My lack of interest does not stem from some misguided belief that pageants somehow degrade women (we're putting them on a pedestal, for heaven's sake!). Its just that they bore me.

I have my own beauty at home and I see no reason to look elsewhere. (I just scored more points than when the Lakers play Sacramento.)

That all changed last week when our very own Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, was attacked publicly by a judge at the Miss USA Pageant.

Miss Prejean had the audacity to voice her own opinion regarding gay marriage.

When asked by pageant judge Perez Hilton (aka Mario Lavandeira) about whether states should legalize gay marriage, Prejean responded "I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

You could have heard a pin drop. The stunned judges fell off their chairs. The crowd began booing. The earth shook and the heavens fell. Obama missed a free throw.

A Miss USA candidate had the temerity to voice her true opinion and swim against the stream of political correctness.

Instead of being applauded and commended, she lost Miss USA to Miss North Carolina.

Did you see the pictures? Miss North Carolina looks like a nice girl but she was nothing compared to Carrie. Tanned, blonde, and stunning, Prejean was the clear favorite to win this beauty pageant. We could have had prime rib but got cube steak. So, what happened to our girl?

Perez Hilton is gay. Not only gay, he is a known gay fascist, who forces his beliefs and ideas upon an unwitting public who is too afraid to stand up to his Gestapo tactics. And he was ready to pounce.

The Miss USA controversy was a setup. One of the other judges was journalist Alicia Jacobs, a former Miss Nevada, was quoted as saying "interestingly, of the five judges who asked questions, Perez was the only one who had written his own question ... and when I asked him what the question was, he would not reveal it, telling me he wanted to keep it secret, but that it had been approved by [Miss USA President] Paula Shugart and the producers. So, of course, when Miss California selected Perez, I couldn't wait to hear the question."

Miss Prejean, a San Diego Christian College junior, is a member of a church called The Rock that is known for its conservative Christian message. Carrie had a massive target on her back that said "Christian Patsy. Take Your Best Shot."

Hilton was a coiled snake ready to strike at another person who disagreed with his political beliefs.

In a later video interview, Hilton remarked "she lost not because she doesn't believe in gay marriage, she lost because she's a dumb *****!" (PerezTV, 04/27/09).

How does a no-talent hack like this get off publicly attacking and insulting an excellent young woman from our state for her religious beliefs? Sounds like a hate crime to me. Somebody call Jerry Brown and get him on the case.

What really hurts is that Hilton did it with the blessing of the Miss USA pageant. While it is true that Prejean selected her questioner, there is no way that they could not have known the shock waves this incident would create. And I strongly doubt that the pageant did not, in some way, influence Prejean's selection of Hilton.

Shame on you, Miss U. You allowed political correctness to trump freedom of speech, freedom of religion, honor, respect and civility. By setting up Carrie, you have insulted Christians, Californians and most Americans on the right and left.

And, Miss USA Pageant, how did you ever allow a pure media creature like Hilton to be a judge? A judge should be someone worthy of respect, distinguished and honorable.

This character seems more suited to digging through trash cans behind fancy restaurants than judging a beauty pageant (of women, no less!).

What is truly fascinating is that Carrie was also expressing the majority opinion of Californians in the state. Remember Proposition 8?

A majority of Californians determined that the state constitution will be amended to define marriage to mean a union between a man and woman.

I guess the Miss USA pageant also despises democracy.

How did we get to the point that Christians can be publicly ambushed for their religious beliefs?

We should not be tolerant of this bigotry and prejudice. In my book, Carrie Prejean is Miss USA and we should feel honored to have her living in California.

She lied about these photos when she signed the morality contract.

She was 20 here. The earlier ones were taken when she was 17.

That's not role model material for young girls, IMO. Plus, she lied when she signed the contract. The morality contract is there for a reason when becoming Miss USA.

Miss USA is the redheaded bastard stepchild of Miss America

and no one even watches Miss America anymore. Gone are the days of Bert Parks singing "Here she is, Miss America..."

contoversy equals publicity. Bet their ratings go up next year

Leona Gage (born Mary Leona Gage in 1939, Longview, Texas), won the title of Miss USA in 1957, representing the state of Maryland. The next day, she was stripped of her crown when it was revealed that she was married and the mother of two children. She had also lied about her age and was only 18, not 21.

Tara Elizabeth Conner (born on December 18, 1985 in Dallas, Texas) is an American beauty queen and model, who is Miss USA 2006 and has also competed in the Miss Teen USA and Miss Universe pageants. Apart from her role as Miss USA, Conner has been employed as a model and waitress. She was a featured model on the HDNet series Bikini Destinations in 2004, posing for the cameras in Lake Tahoe. She has held the titles Miss Kentucky Teen USA 2002, Miss Kentucky County Fair 2004, Miss Kentucky USA 2006 and Miss USA 2006.

In late 2006, Conner became the center of a public scandal when news reports claimed she had been drinking underage, tested positive for the use of cocaine, and kissed Miss Teen USA Katie Blair, among other things. She was allowed to retain her title and entered a drug rehabilitation program.

Conner happened under Trump's watch too.

The Pageant has changed since he took over.

Talk about spinning ....... I think someone thought, wow this is the perfect poster girl for antigay marriage, let's see just how badly we can make the gay community look by making this 'innocent' young lady look like she's just been torn appart by a monster.

Being pretty makes a good role model? laugh noway laugh

She signed this and lied about it on the morality contract for the Pageant.

According to page 15 of her Miss USA contract, obtained by Access Hollywood, she was barred from being “photographed in a state of partial or total nudity.”

Prejean’s contract with Miss California USA also prohibits nudity, stating on page five, “appearing in public or permitting myself to be photographed in a state of partial or total nudity or in a lewd, compromising or sexually suggestive manner constitutes a violation of this provision (this includes photographs of images that may appear on any Web site, such as MySpace of Facebook).”

Oh so being beautiful means the lieing part is forgiven? Interesting. I don't know about naturally beautiful if she had a boob job when there was nothing wrong with the ones she had. The fact that she likes men? What does that have to do with anything. So what? My girl friends all like men too, big deal..

Personally, I wouldnt want my daughter to model her life after any beauty pageant contestant.
But since you keep insisting on making this a point.

If a young girl wanted to become a beauty pageant contestant,
say a Miss USA.
Why wouldnt you want them to pick Carrie Prejean as a role Model?
She's a winner!

Now, if you want,
we could just recheck every woman who was a contestant
and publicly announce all the findings.
I wonder how many of them lied in one manner or other?
Why not? we could just make a whole controversy
of the entire Miss USA Pageant.

Strike up another institution destroyed by the GLBT?

Besides,
How much expectation of getting a controversial clean winner
can we have from a contest which uses judges like Perez Hilton?
