With the loss of so many as of late, many people are predicting the death of the printed newspaper. Is this as detrimental as many say? Will online news completely fill the void?

it's a market economy

I love reading the newspaper every single day

but lately I can't find one that isn't pushing either a conservative or liberal agenda

or they only have 4 pages of news and still wnat a dollar to buy

Yep, although I happen to enjoy reading the Chicago Tribune. They do however push either a conservative or liberal agenda.

Proof positive that the news is not Objective any more! Maybe if the news got less political and more objective they could save themselves!

Yeah Right....

They also cram fear down our throats!

One argument I have heard is that newspaper are greatest source for local news. Can online news step up to be such an important source for local news?

hahaha I live in a town of 5000 people and the next closest town is a 45 minute drive. we don't have local news

I do read USA Today every day. They seem to do a pretty good job of covering all the issues with only a mild liberal bias

Ya'll are missin' an opportunity!!!

Newspapers are becoming extinct? It'll never happen!

Only because no one is filling the void!

It is an untapped resource in smaller communities where people want to read local news but have no means!

I disagree. You will find that small towns have been developing their web pages to include local news where a costly weekly paper publication can be turned into a daily read via the internet. Newspapers cost money to print and the majority of their revenue is generated from advertising dollars, not subscriptions. Not a huge ad base in a small town so a web page is the way to go unless you need something to line a bird cage with?

Even in this day and age not everyone has access to the internet.

What was the last time you read a newspaper? I, don't remember.

Secondly, because a single man can not easily publish a newspaper, only a governmental propaganda will be their content. With this in mind, I say, good riddance, controlled media!

Not yet, but they will. Newspapers will obviously die a slow death, except for the grocery store rags. There will always be a market for the bon bon eating crowd with their beehive hair-do-s and makeup that was applied with a putty knife and a spray can that like to paruse that crap.

Better off without any news, than false news.

It is always better to have no ideas than false ones; to believe nothing, than to believe what is wrong.

Even internet news media can be biased. Where does it end? How does one determine biased media from the unbiased?

We can't. But it is better than government media, as that is a 100% lie.

With internet, at least, the truth is available, it is simply a task of finding a good source.

Of course, as an old joke says, with newspapers it is simply a task of adding "not" to every word you read...bigsmile

I wasn't referring to any news source's bias. I was looking at the issue from a business point of view. Creative mentioned small town papers and I said that it is not only easier but a definite money maker from ad revenue due to the fact that the internet site is nearly free so overhead is very low versus maintaining presses, operating personnel, vehicles, building, etc. etc.

Besides, who said I want to pay money to hold their under-backed dirty newspaper with traces of swine flu on it?

How do I scan it? If I can't scan it, and put it on my monitor, then I can't read it, now can I?
