Is it a quality in a partner you would find interesting?
I have ran into a few who are the forever pessimist. They throw it off by making jokes of it but it is still pessimism. I find it quite the downer after a bit. I am not a "rose glasses" type of optimist but I believe we bring to ourselves what we put out in the universe so I would not dream of being a pessimist. I feel karma would zap me with all my pessimism coming true...lol How bout you guys? |

i hear ya...can't be roses and crap all the time..but i can't have someone constantly being a don or debbie downer...dang...lol

Optimism is my thing. I do have my bad moments, days, but am always looking for the brighter side of things

I'm not always the optimist but I eventually find good in almost any situation. Being with an eternal pessimist would drag me down.

Imma realist, with a twinge of cynicism added for flavor.

It depends on the problem. I weigh the data and make a call. If a friend gets married I am going to be optimistic about it even if cracks show in the hopes that everything works itself out. If the government keeps spending tons of money that it does not have I am consistently going to think something bad is going to come of this. If I am in a relationship I will consistently hope for the best and act accordingly till my mind tells me otherwise at which point, if you can't be optimistic, it's time to leave.
Some people are just down about everything and that is just no fun. |

Pessimism is to me, an indicator of someone who has created a victim mentality for themselves, so always look for the worse...or is a protective behaviour....
It doesn't ring my bell (attract me) at all in a relationship....however his Lordship attempts the grumpies.... and all the reasons why it wont work.... but my eternal optimism drowns out his pessimism... and besides I so love telling him, 'I Told you so'...when he is wrong! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Isn't cynisism (spelling) a pessimistic trait? It's looking for the negative.... being cynical is a negative stance. |

i think also pessimism can happen by means of experience I think Jesse is right and you, it comes from experiences of pain and is a form of protection of sorts. |

I cant stand the all or nothing mentality....even though I have felt it at times. There are some people think like that way about everything!!

Cynical here...dealing a healthy dose of reality into the "I can be an astronaut!" gene pool since 1985.

i think also pessimism can happen by means of experience Negative experiences happen.... it's how you decide to view them, that creates a positive or negative attitude. Sometimes 'letting go' of negative experiences are the best way to keep a more optimistic viewpoint in life, rather than dwelling, and festering on the negatives of the experiences. |

So basically what a pessimist is saying by being that way is, I have been hurt and don't want to go through it again so if I expect every bad thing to happen I will not be shocked nor hurt by the outcome.
Or simply don't hurt me. |
