EXCLUSIVE: Lobbyists help Dems draft climate change bill

Democratic lawmakers who spent much of the Bush administration blasting officials for letting energy lobbyists write national policy have turned to a coalition of business and environmental groups to help draft their own sweeping climate bill.

And one little-noticed provision of the draft bill would give one of the coalition's co-founders a lucrative exemption on a coal-fired project it is building. . . .

Everyone is mad at everyone else for being in bed with the lobbyists, but everyone is in bed with the lobbyists.

The exemption is for two power plants whose construction began in Jan 2008.

It was USCAP that provided language to the Waxman-Market draft that effectively bars construction of new coal-fired projects for 10 to 15 years, until "clean coal" technology is developed.

The exemption is that the two power plants would be allowed to continue construction!

"It's just not a fair comparison," said Karen Lightfoot, spokeswoman for Mr. Waxman, saying the process for the climate bill had been far more transparent.

Members of the Cheney energy task force crafted energy policy in secret in 2001, and Democratic lawmakers spent months battling the Bush administration to release records of the meetings, she said.

By contrast, Mr. Waxman's committee has held dozens of hearings on the topic of climate change, and USCAP's blueprint has been publicly touted since its January release, Ms. Lightfoot said.

I must agree with Ms Lightfoot!
There is no comparison!

"At a January hearing, Mr. Waxman promised the USCAP ideas would be written into climate legislation. "

My point was not so much about the plant as much as the bickering from both sides about what they both are guilty of. It is just party politics. The whole climate change fiasco is bs anyway.

I have to agree many of these "experts" say that the would be gone by 2010 and now they say it's 2020....*sniffs* i know that smell, it's called Crap.

Wither or not climate change or global warming or whatever the hell they call it today is a danger to the world is another discussion but when scientist with political mindsets misuse science and give over-exaggerated hogwash that's when i lose all interest with their policy. If they want the environment taken seriously they need to learn to stop thinking that Americans are as gullible as Europeans and stop producing false data
