"When I Was Beautiful"
when I was beautiful I welcomed accepted embraced every challenge when I was beautiful Every mountain seemed a mole-hill every desert a sand box when I was beautiful Every rainbow was like ice cream every raindrop like honey dew when I was beautiful Blue skies never ended forever were the sunsets fixed and extended when I was beautiful Thorns didn’t scratch daisies grew bold every song bird to hatch when I was beautiful Irrepressible my Spirit needed no approval I knew I was Whole Then came distinctions dissections divides Vacated my Beauty insist I take sides when I was beautiful These colors none dread black, white, yellow, red Colors of candy & marbles I said before lost virtues and hate that was fed when I was beautiful Counted I one kiss for each mile Now educated and worldly contempt served with a smile I remember being beautiful barefooted and free now stand I here sophisticated poor me Whose arbitrary ERROR was it to substitute the inextinguishable "flame of child-likeness" for the wilting decay of "act your own age" To thrive again to be alive again Oh enchant my eyes and unleash my heart again To be whole again debris free again let me relapse to beauty once more again ... When I was beautiful ... |

Expression is a door leading outward, allow your inner child to follow, and be, even if only for a time, to remain forever, beautiful.
Good write my friend |
