I just dont want to hurt his feelings, hes a sweet guy and kinda sensative you need to tell him in a way that it concerns you. you care for him and are worried that he might have a health or dental problem. perhaps you can find a friend of his who could break it to him for you, or one of his close family members. it should be ok as long as he knows that it is coming from the heart. like agrant said, there are many causes for bad breath. it will soften the blow a lot if he knows that you are acting out of genuine concern rather than just criticizing his hygiene. it might not be hygiene.... i think it is admirable that you are so considerate. |

I had to deal with this same thing once. I should have been straight with him. Instead, I started talking about the subject of teeth and then he started talking about his own.
Maybe talk about his positive qualities first and then tell him the truth. |

I think you should just tell him straight.Tell him it feels like your kissing Mr Ed

Eh well, different perspective here. Since I live in the state in the US with the highest level of uninsured people - my first thought was, maybe he knows and can't afford to have the dental work done. If it's medical, not dental, maybe he can't afford to see a doctor and a series of specialists and pay for testing, treatment, etc.
If he's a great guy otherwise, seems like it would be a waste to not look past it. |

If he's willing to let an obvious problem like that go uncorrected, what's next?

Most likely he doesn't even know he has a problem. The nicest thing possible, would to tell him very kindly just like you told us but, in private. For example, the next time you are alone, tell him how much you like him but, ...... then give him helpful suggestions such as ........... brushing alone doesn't resolve these issue ........ Just remember to be kind and sincere. Good luck to both of you |

thanks for all the advice,I had the talk with him today and it went surprisingly well,he said he was aware of the problem but does not have insurance at the time to see a dentist,he said he will do everything he can to correct it,so all's well that ends well
