do we not care about the 150+ mexicans who died as well...? I don't believe that was implied anywhere |

No, to the contrary we discussed how any parent would take their child where ever they had to in order to find medical treatment that worked.

In El paso they say 10,000 people cross the border everyday. Yet its so lax for screening possible sick persons. According to the reports. Yet I saw an report on tv ( same one actually) that some countries have thermal scanners at borders to detect people with fevers. and they are screened .Other countries do so much more then we do here inour own .. what gives? do we think we are invinciable here.?
I know simple precautions like washing your hands not coughing and sneezing out right etc etc. will help not spread it. But there are to many who continue to go to places like Mexico and take that chance.. me? I won't be swapping spit with no pigs in the near future... j/k |

Someone needs to tell me what the frigging panic is over so few deaths but no one has any issues over the amount of people killed by drunk or drugged up drivers in the US alone?
I agree with closing the borders, though I've felt that way for more then just a flu going around. 100,000 deaths, out of a world population of 4 billion or so, is a drop in the bucket. This swine flu is no where near that amount yet, and may never reach that amount. |

regular flu that comes around every year kills around 30,000 people in the US alone each year
this is no where near even that |

I agree, there's really no reason to panic and hopefully, there never will be. If people exercise reasonable precautions, then it can be contained and the media brouhaha will be over. |

It's just a matter of when. Eventually there will be 4 billion dead, and that's not counting the ones being born as we read and write this. This isn't an epidemic, but epidemics flar fast and hard and burn themselves out, or adjust themselves to be yet another strain the goes around yearly. |

Time to close the freakin' borders... Seriously, until this deadly epidemic is contained, no one should be allowed to cross the borders in either direction. But no, it wouldn't be politically correct... God forbid we should stop the Mexicans from crossing into our land and infecting our children with a deadly virus. Fcckin' ridiculous. They could never close the boarders properly 100% it will get in with the illegals and the drugs |

Did anyone find out where in Texas the little girl was from? Find numerous articles but none state a city or area. Fran I can't find anything on that either. I wanted something specific. Keith, when were they there? How long ago? I am in California and the news I saw on the baby in texas states that her family brought her to texas from mexico for treatment after she got the flu... so she contracted the flu in mexico, came to the states for treatment, was too late and she died... |

"Time to close the freakin' borders."
Sorry but...too little too late. With the speed of travel by the time they knew there was a risk that risk had spread already. Right now there seem to be a few theories about this mucking about: (1) the government is hyping this threat because *insert conspiracy theory of your choice here* (2) they (again unnamed boogie men) unleashed an illness to undermine the economy or kill Americans (3) there is no threat just alarmist (4) the government will use this threat to round people up (this is a favorite of mine since what should be avoided is grouping people up) (5)this is proof the borders should be closed What did I miss? A few things I guess. The point is...disease is a natural process. It is a part of life no different from any other natural process. (Yes I am aware disease can be weaponized) To expect "the government" to stop or reverse it or to blame it on "the government" is especially funny when you regularly piss and moan about not wanting to pay taxes...well it's almost funny mostly it's sad that people are such sheep. The truth is it is nearly impossible to predict with accuracy whether this will kill large amounts of people or if it will peter out or even if it will perhaps reemerge during the next flu season. Public health officials are damned if the do and damned if they don't. Downplay and people die? Raise alarm and people don't? Paranoid speculation really serves no purpose what so ever. Nature will have it's way. |

Swine Flu is just nature's way of controlling the population. SARS was soooo big and deadly and that just fell off the map it seems. This will pass too. I'm sure someone has the antidote for it, it's just waiting to be used.

i was looking for the article and got side tracked by the "regular flu" ...it kills 250,000 - 500,000 people worldwide a year!! that's staggering The 1916-1918 one killed 50 MILLION! That one was a swine flu too. |

This swine flu is no where near that amount yet, and may never reach that amount. That makes it so much better!!! I don't realy think everyone is overcome with panic, just taking precautions. I guess it is just a drop in the bucket unless it's your kid or you that dies from it. Why not just nuke Mexico and kill it before it grows? It's only a few million people! BTW, The CDC did say that is is LIKELY that this will turn into a global pandemic and LOTS will die. They could be wrong but I wouldn't take it so lightly. You know how that goes. I will be you as soon as you start on about "its nothing". |
