I hate GM anyway, but It's a shame to see the makers of the old GTO get shut down. Who's next? Saturn, SAAB, or Hummer??

What makes you think they're going anywhere? Do you seriously think that GM is going to shut down when they're releasing the camaro next year and most would kill to own a corvette? Our country will not let American icons go down the drain... Wait and watch...

Don't you watch the news?? Pontiac is SHUTTING DOWN after 2010. What I mean by shutting down is.. Pontiacs will no longer be made anymore after 2010. Buick is adopting the Pontiac Solstice and G6.. GMC is adopting the Torrent or whatever It's called.

I don't care for Fords either but I did make over $800 this week on their stock.. Gm stock is still faltering but I believe in our icons and continue to buy them...

So Ryan it's the 'car' going away not the car maker, that's what you meant.. I understand now...

I have no complaints with Ford. I had a 1990 Aerostar that I had gotten with 90K on it.. Still with origional motor and trans with no major work done, It's at 295K and running strong.. It's my junk yard runner to pick up parts for my jeep when I take out a quarter pannel on a tree off roading.

Had a 2000 Ford Ranger Pick-up that my dad origionaly owned. He bought it new and I ended up with it as my first vehicle. It died with about 185K. I could have fixed it (Blew a head), but I was too freaking lazy.

No no, Pontiac is done.. Their exsistance will cease to be in 2010. GM is still there (Pontiacs parent company), but Pontiac is no longer.

Actually, it's Pontiac as a whole- nameplate, car and all. It's all a part of GM's restructuring at the behest of the Obama Administration...

GM will essentially be split up, with the GOOD-performing parts of GM (Chevrolet, GMC, Chevy truck, Cadillac) being formed into "Good" GM, while the not-so-good-performing parts of GM (Hummer, Buick, Saturn) will be branded into "Bad" GM. Other nameplates, like Pontiac and possibly Saab will go the way of the do-do bird, as they're the worst-performing of the car divisions.

Since Pontiacs are mechanically identical to Chevy's in almost every way, it's not much of a problem- parts that can be moved to a Chevy or Cadillac will be moved. Sheet metal will either be adapted to fit or scrapped.

But Pontiac as we know it is pretty much over and done with. Among other things, it means no Firebird re-launch for the forseeable future.

Saturn was the one company making them money. GM is run by chimps and circus clowns.

Not sure about that Andy, I've owned all but the pontiac and I don't find a saturn better than a chevy.. Both name brand cars broke down and gave me trouble now I have a pt cruiser that's doing the same...

I can't personally see how Ford is doing better than the other manufacturers either, as they're the worst when it comes to bean-counting and cost-cutting at the expense of vehicle durability and customer satisfaction.

I've had my 1999 Ranger since it was almost-new, and I've had nothing but problems with it, from power steering racks that would want to blow out at a minutes notice (I'm presently on my third one), cylinder heads that want to crack at a minute's notice, front disc brakes rotors that warp more than the Starship Enterprise, and rear leaf springs that wouldn't hold up on a donkey-pulled carriage.

Basically put, you simply can't put passenger car components in a mid-sized truck, as you'll be spitting parts out every time. It's just too bad the bean-counters at Ford haven't figured any of that out yet.

Every car has a flaw.. Cars break.. No matter the company. Some people like different brands of car better because they've been "lucky" with that particular brand.

Fords are known for a flawed automatic trans.
Chevy known for an unstable standard trans.
Fords known for head problems on the 3.8 motors.
Chevy known for head problems on their 2.2 motor.

Mopar pretty much sucks all around excluding jeep.
Their 4.0 I6 motor has been around for years.

I won't even get into import cars. I hate them with a Fuxking passion. If people would stop buying imports and buy american cars, the car companys wouldn't be in this state. It would stimulate the economy.

If you look at older (classic) cars.. The bodys were terrible in the mid 70's-80's. They were all rust buckets.

Into the 90's to current.. GM was always ahead on the way their car looked.. But lacked an OHC or DOHC motor till the late 90's where ford was ahead of the game there. Ford was also the first company to feature seemless shift points where you don't feel the car shift.

MY POINT.
every company has its ups and downs.
no company now has a better car then the other.
it's all just a matter of taste and "luck" you had with a certain brand.

I had a 2000 ford ranger with no complaints till 185k. Rotors warp from being too hard on breaks. Any idiot that knows about cars/trucks know that. Cars break if you drive them into the ground. Just because It's a pick-up truck doesn't mean it can handle what an f-150 can. Besides that, if you think the ranger has "car components", hahahaha. Dana produced leaf springs are NOT car components. The rangers don't even feel like a car when driving them. It's not a mid-size truck either. It's the smallest pick-up truck ford has come out with to date. The old f-100 or the f-150s are mid size. f-250/350s are full size.

AND before I forget.
Ford was the only american car company that its ceos willingly took salary and retirement cuts.

First off, the 3.0 L engine in the Ranger is lifted off of the Ford Taurus (which any "idiot" would know is a CAR), a Porsche design known as "Vulcan". The leaf springs were a carry-over from pre-IRS Crown Victorias (a CAR). About the only thing that WAS designed for the Ranger was the tranny, and Ford couldn't even get THAT right, as they had to create a whole NEW design for their 4.0L motor. The brake rotors (a known flaw with Rangers- just check the vehicle service report websites out there) are also a CAR design.

Second off, The Ranger/Mazda B-Series, The Dodge Dakota, The Toyota Tacoma, and Chevy S-10 are MID-sized trucks. Check out any periodical or automotive website and you will be schooled.

Third off, if you expect to be taken seriously, please refrain from calling other people "idiots" when you clearly don't have a clue as to what you're talking about.
