i'm not sure if i'm allowed to utter this but i will try anyhoo because this is a legitimate concern.

when a member edits their own post, there's a line at the bottom which states something like "edited by JasmineInglewood at 8:18 pm" for example. this is offered by way of explanation in case things don't quite read coherently in the thread after said editing.

why is it, when mods change what i've typed originally, can't they do the same? it seems like mods can, in theory, change whatever i type and have it passed off as my original words without any explanation offered as to this being the case.

is this not unfair?

Huh, I didn't know they actually changed content. I thought they just deleted posts altogether. Interesting.

hahaha that happens to me all the time

you just have to trust in the integrity and good intentions of the mods

I was on a previous site when I got booted from the forums but still had mod powers. It was really funny to edit the mods posts and imagine the looks on their faces

Yes, in one of the Parenting topics Someone said something horrible to someone else, I reported the post after I had told this person that he would no longer receive advise from me; However, The final result was that his insulting comment was removed from his post, making me look like a jerk as an end result.

Wow......I think it'd be better to just remove offending posts completely. I didn't even know this was common practice here.

Hehe...

As a Moderator of Mingle2, I often have to make judgment calls. When the thread's meaning is completely changed by removing the offending comment, we often choose to edit such instead. If you're left looking like a jerk because you answered an inappropriate comment in the first place, then you should report your own comment and let us know that we've missed one.

We often have to speed-read through these threads because there is so much ground to cover, and yes, we sometimes miss something. My personal goal is to keep the thread moving smoothly.

While it is a violation of Mingle2 rules to question Moderator/Administrator actions in the forums, you still have the right to send Charles an email and address your concerns with him.

Also, every Moderator's actions are in the open for the other Moderators to see. Every edit we make, every thread we move or delete -- all up for review. If one of us were to edit something in an unethical way, you can bet the rest of us would jump on it. We keep each other on point and honest.

With the thread in question, the edited post was only returned to its original state. Nothing was added or taken away, just put back to how it was meant to be in the first place.

that as it may be...

even if one isn't left looking like a jerk, it would still seem dishonest and sinister to have anyone tampering with my words. no matter how pure their intentions.

i should have a right to have my thoughts and expressions represented exactly as i intended, have them modified by mods with the appropriate notification, or deleted altogether if i am violating the rules.

i will indeed address my concerns to charles. thanks lulu.

Being a Mod my self we do not at anytime Modify anyone's words nor do we add any words that you did not put there in the first place.

Now we might change a heading title if it is against the rules in the first place.

And at anytime that we delete your words it was due to they were against forum rules to begin with. But at no time do we modify or add words to anyone's post.

When you change the name of a topic, which asserts discussing admin/mod actions..then that is a totally acceptable tactic of our moderators..Not to mention, it is against forum rules to discuss Admin or mod actions on the forums.

Please read the forum rules..

Locking this up.
